How often do you use chopsticks?

I'd say on average I use them twice a week.

All the time. Every day. I cook with them. I find them a lot easier than tongs or a spatula for a lot of things. I've used them ever since I was a child so it's second nature. That being said, I have no idea how to go about getting my daughter to want to use them...by her age there were photos of us using them (albeit not well!)

If you grow up using them, they are the best things to use in the kitchen!

Ha! Great timing. I just used them tonight to cook and eat some veggies. I said twice a week.

I eat sushi ALLL OF THE TIME. that counts, right?

Whenever I eat sushi, Thai, pho, or Chinese food, which generally amounts to once a month.

I REFUSE to eat any of the above with a knife and fork.

We use chopsticks whenever we eat Chinese or Japanese food either at home or in a restaurant.

about 2X a week when i eat noodles out of a bowl, and you know what is weird? ...when i see people using chopsticks eatting off a plate..

Once a week when I'm out at my weekly sushi date with my best friend. I love them and I think if I had a good pair, I would use them at home too!

don't be so hard on her,b/c 75% of the people that i see in chinese restaurants are unable to master the technic of using/holding a pair of chopsticks the correct way,and yes Kenny... that includes you.. :!:

Ditto.

The food has to be cut up. They don't work all that well with steak or a hamburger.

I try to get to my favorite sushi restaurant at least once a week, so that means on average, I use them once a week.

I use chopsticks 'correctly' with either hand. Something that I learned during a particularly dismal package tour when I was young.

But I use appropriate cutlery for the food I'm eating. Chopsticks for noodles, chinese food japanese and korean fare. Forks and knives for well, most everything else. Hands for some middle eastern food, and when I sit down with people who prefer to eat indian/malay food that way...

The caveat is that even chinese eat food in chinese restaurants that are served on plates with a fork and spoon. Like fried rice topped with a fried egg for example. If it is rice, and it is served on a flat plate... you're usually meant to use a spoon and fork. It is odd when caucasians step into chinese restaurants and insist on eating everything with only chopsticks. If it was meant to be eaten with chopsticks, the rice would be served in a bowl. But if it is noodles... then even on a flat plate you still use chopsticks.

Wonder if that made any sense?

I use them completely correctly now, but even a lot of asians don't use them correctly.

I rounded to once/day, but it's really more like 5 times/week.

All the time, but not for eating. They come in handy for lots of things around the house. I'm propping up a droopy hibiscus in my front flower bed with about six of them right now.

I use chopsticks with pretty much any asian meal.... It especially weirds me out to eat Chinese food with a fork instead of chopsticks

TGal, I remember one of my favorite games as a kid was at birthday parties, where there would be a fishbowl filled with marbles. Every kid would take turns using chopsticks to pick up and take out as many marbles into another cup/bowl as possible within a certain time frame. I ****LOVED**** doing this. I was (am) competitive by nature, so I went home and practiced! It really helped. Once I got the hang of using chopsticks on something so slippery and round, I became pro with it on any other foods :D

You can also do what my gramma did to us: You can't eat unless you're using chopsticks! :P We never starved.

Kenny I'm voting 2x a week because it's the closest. I use chopsticks maybe 3-4x a week, when I'm at grandma's house. It's purely because I'm a student, so I eat frozen tv-dinners or cup of noodles with plastic utensils most meals ;)

At least a couple of times a month. I use them to each sushi and also anything asian and noodle-y.

I also use them wrong and I know it. I've never managed to get the real hang of them but if it can pick up the food with them I'm all good, and If I can't, I will eventually get frustrated and stop eating, and thus I will get skinnier

We lived in an Asian neighborhood in San Francisco & I learned to do a lot of Oriental cooking, still do it about twice a week. It doesn't taste right w/out chopsticks.

Generally whenever I eat pho or sushi, so I'd say about 1-2 times per month. Depends on the season. I'm sure the sushi will pick up since I have just started to really like it! :)

I wonder if this is where I am going wrong. I can hold the chopsticks correctly but can't work the eating part! If I put the food in a bowl would it make it easier to use them? I'm going to try it.

Whenever I eat Chinese food.

Never. Don't really see much need for them and when I eat Asian food (which is very rarely) it's usually something solid that can be eaten with a fork and knife.

All day every day. What's a fork?

About once a week, and only for noodly-type Asian food. If we have rice with other Asian entrees, we eat off a plate and with a fork.

Strange thing though, my husband and I are both of Asian descent, but grew up here. We rarely eat with chopsticks, but I never had to teach my kids to use chopsticks...it was almost like they wre genetically bred to know how to use them. My kids are 10 and 8 now, and have been using chopstcks well (if not correctly) for about 3-5 years!

if your chopsticks cross into an X ( wife does that  ) then you are using it incorrectly.

Oh good.
So I'm using them correctly.
They look like a V, where the point opens and closes as the stick furthest from my body is the only one that moves.
I feel so cool.

good for you Kenny!...sounds like you are a chopstick master .. :appl:

I only use chopsticks when I eat sushi.
So no chopsticks or sushi for me for eight more months! ;( I miss my sushi already.

My mom can't use chopsticks so we bought her this pair of training chopsticks. I thought she'd love them, but she was pretty offended. Denial!
