I clean my e-ring as per the schedule that Leon suggested - not more than once per week, but not less than once every two week so that dirt and grime do not get a chance to build up. So, I clean it with a baby toothbrush and some jewelery cleaner or diluted liquid dish soap about once a week. While I''m cleaning it, my US safe rings and my diamond studs go in for a jacuzzi.
Why not?

Hi Ellen

He seemed to think that it was unnecessary to clean it any more often than this, and that ''over-cleaning'' could prove detrimental in the long run (in terms of the integrity of the pave). Keep in mind this was specific to pieces with lots of pave, (and just his opinion).

Only when I pop by my jeweller''s, which makes for one dirty ring.

Pandora,
What''s the best way to clean coloured stones?
Depends on the type.

Things like opals and emeralds I just wipe over with a soft damp cloth with no detergent or anything in it.

Other stones like peridot I use a baby toothbrush and whatever soap-like stuff I have to hand.

Garnets, topaz, aquamarine etc I''d put in the US - although I''d hesitate over hessonite or spess because of the types of inclusions they have.

I wouldn''t put coloured stones in a US every day though.

It''s worth looking them up online before you do any of them - I had a list somewhere.

The other thing to watch for is thermal shock. Never put a coloured stone straight into very hot water or from very hot straight into cold. If I''m soaking a piece in hotwater I warm it up gradually under a running tap and then put it in. I''ve never used boiling water.

I clean my ring just about every day with cleaning solution and a baby toothbrush... I heard that US cleaners are not good for pave because the melee stones can fall out. Is that true?
everybody tells you that

buttttt to me....if it isn''t US safe then you shouldn''t be wearing it !!

Rings undergo wear & tear though. Even a 3-stone ring can take a knock that loosens a stone ever-so-slightly and begins the process of eventually getting looser. Rings with many tiny diamonds are much more susceptible to ''life'' so even if they begin US safe it makes sense to care for them by hand.

Guynalogy - I know my sports car is well made but I still choose to hand-wash it.

My lady used to put her e-ring in the US I bought her once per week. Now I catch her doing it every other day. Is this common? Does she need help?

I wouldn''t worry about it John - she doesn''t need help, just more jewels!

I clean my e-ring every 4-5 days, but I only wear it about once a week, haha. So I clean it more often than I wear it!

I clean my rings once a week with warm water and soft toothbrush.

I clean my rings about every other day or every two days using ammonia based jar cleaner and a soft toothbrush. I clean my diamond pendant about once a week.

Every day. Though, we recently went away for a few days and I forgot my equipment. Oh, the nasty hotel hand soap left such a residue! I cleaned it first thing when I got home!

I used to never ever clean my e-ring. And I mean "never". I''m so bad! But this week, I was in a cleaning mood, and sprayed some windex on my e-ring, did a little scrubbing, and WOW, the sparkle was amazing. It made me fall in love with my diamond again. So although I am thinking about an upgrade, the wait is a bit more bearable since I love my e-ring again! I should have done this cleaning thing sooner!

(I also decided that it will be my goal to clean my ring more frequently, so I purchased an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner on Ebay, hehehe)

Every day with Mr. Clean, Dawn, and hot water, scrubbing with a baby toothbrush, plus the US once a week.

1-2 times a week.

I just got my ring a few days ago, so of course I am still totally obsessed. I have a little bottle of cleaning solution with a brush that I use daily but am really looking hard at an US. I can''t decide which one to buy though. I don''t want to spend a ton, but I also don''t want to go too cheap and have it not work well or break in a month. The idea of being able to have my ring keep looking like it did the moment it came out of the box is pretty enticing!

Hey bem!

Well, I would have to politely disagree with it being unecessary to clean it more often. Nothing attracts dirt/grease/grime easier/faster than a diamond (which he should know?). Especially if one does not take the ring off to wash hands, cook, shower, etc. And while I guess I can understand the part about the integrity of the pave, I''m wondering why a well made setting couldn''t hold up to gentle brush cleaning...

I''m not trying to be argumentitive at all, I just, kinda don''t get it. lol

But at any rate, thank you for explaining mam!

if i had a diamond ring i would clean it everyday. i hate looking at DD.

goues in the ultra sonic daily!!

Every couple of days with a toothbrush & ammonia and then the Jewel Jet. I would probably do it every day but my husband already thinks I''m a total jewlery freak as it is ;)
