I really love this pendant. It''s a .35 ct. aquamarine set into a platinum chain.

How much would something like this realistically run and can anyone recommend a website where I can find a similar style? This one is from Tiff & Co and is $1,100, which is a bit much! lol I''m hoping to find cheaper and would be okay with 18K white gold.

Thanks!

I'd probably buy the aqua seperately, then bezel set it using a local jeweller.

My guess is that the aqua would run about $100 (depending on quality, but even so, no more than $100)
The bezel and chain (if 18kt WG) a few hundred.
All in all, my guess is probably close to $500.

Where would be a good place to purchase an aqua from?

Any idea how picky you are?
What about the depth of colour and saturation? Greenish or more blue-ish?
Heated or untreated?

My favourite vendors (if I have requests), in no particular order:
1. Gary at www.diamondexpert.com
2. Wink at www.winkjones.com

I like Multicolour and Ajsgems but sometimes I just don''t want to deal with shipping stones back to Asia.

$200 for the setting and chain is a good price. I wonder how the bezel looks like from the side? Add $100 for the aqua, and that''s $800 in savings from the Tiff stone. However, I do wonder about the Tiff bezel...do you think it is a girdle bezel (just covering the girdle and not the entire stone like the DBTY)?

Looks like this has been already answered on PS. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/diamonds-by-the-yard.35381/. The culet of the DBTY setting does poke at the neck.

Jeez, tiffany's is so overpriced. I recently purchased a bezel pendant from bluenile and the .30 *diamond* versions with I/SI1 were only around $500 with a WG setting!!!

You could get a setting like this from almost anyone. You might also consider having dan stair custom cut you an aqua (customgemstones.com) and then having someone local set it for you.

Yep, it is a thin bezel. I have the exact necklace w/a diamond that a local jeweler made for me based on photos I showed him. I don''t want to go back to him though because he really overcharged me!

Chrono - thanks for the vendor links. I''m not very familiar with aquamarines, so I''ll have to read up a bit. I''m not looking for top-of-the-line and am open to heat treated stones, so hopefully $100 would be the most it''d cost. I really would like a thin bezel like the Tiff one so I''ll look around online a bit as it looks like both the Blue Nile and WF ones are thicker.

I looked at this necklace earlier today and really liked it. Great ideas about finding a similar one PSers.

Do you think it would work with an OVAL diamond? Would that depend on the skill of the local jeweler or do they use premade settings for this necklace?

Please tell me why you think he overcharged you. I''m thinking about having this done and I''d like an idea of what a B&M jeweler charged. Did you feel overcharged at the time? Was it the diamond cost? Or do you think this based on what Chrono just told you.

Thanks.

Hi,

Let me know if you're planning to have this design made as I may have a few photos somewhere on my hard drive of various views for you to look at. It really helped the jeweler.

The jeweler charged me $600-650 for just the platinum setting. In looking at online costs, of, for example the Blue Nile version, the price is only $375. I think that in hindsight I would have called around to get a better price. (the diamond was already mine. It was from my mom's eng. ring.)

Since the aquamarine version would just be a fun fashion necklace for me and I'm also saving up for another pendant, I don't want to spend very much. I may just hunt at a few local b&ms and see if there is a similar version that is pre-made with an aquamarine. I just am hesitant to spend more than $300.

Whiteflash is capable of doing the girdle bezel as they did a great job on FireGoddess'' earrings, although it will cost more since it is considered a custom job.

Those are so pretty. I''m tempted to buy a pair of those or have my other smaller diamonds set into that setting. I need a more cooperative husband who will finance all these needs! lol

Hi MC, I just got a quote from Quest to bezel a diamond I have that is currently in a pendant that I don''t like too much. I think the diamond is only around .20 or so and they quoted me $135 for a 14 k white gold bezel setting on a 16" chain. I thought that was a good price.

Thanks MC and Asscher Girl. I really am kicking around alot of ideas. I do appreciate your offer of photos MC. How about doing an OVAL like this and then adding small diamonds like the DBTY up the sides maybe only 4...

That sounds like a great price. I''ll look into them. I need to find a stone, first, though! lol Maybe I should just get a cheaper one on eBay?

That would be gorgeous. An oval would look great set east/west, don''t you think? I love the diamonds up the side. I have two small .25 diamonds. . . maybe I should set those into the sides of the aqua?

I have an oval set E/W like this!!! It''s a sapphire and I had it done locally. Just beware that the labor cost goes up dramatically because there are no ready made stuller esque settings like this. My sapph was $100 and the work/materials for the necklace were about $350 from a local jeweler in WG.

Sorry for the horrible picture and my sports bra!

Yes like that! How do you find pictures like this? Except that I''d put the "smaller" stones further away from the center stone. I''m really liking that look. Do you think it''s just a PS trend? I think the style goes with a dress or with jeans and a t shirt.

THANKS for the info about price. I did plan on setting the OVAL E/W. I figured the OVAL bezel wouldn''t be stock which makes me hesitate. But the round stones would go into stock settings and the necklace itself right? So maybe it could be done for under 500 USD if I already owned the stones.

I have an OVAL and I''m trying to decide what to do with it. My husband doesn''t think the DBTY necklaces look very sturdy. But the secondary diamonds could be quite small (read not expensive) maybe .10 or .15 and it would still look good and sparkle. I guess I need to see more necklaces like this. I don''t know if I want to do that to my OVAL.

Yep, this style goes with everything. Even a tank top

I was worried that that design wouldn''t be sturdy and had the jeweler who made my pendant use a stronger chain. It doesn''t look as "floaty" but it''s heavy enough that if one of my kids tugs on it, it won''t break.

Here''s the one with the heavier chain:

That looks just GREAT to me. I like the idea of a sturdier chain....

THANKS for posting so many photos.
