The insurance adjuster needs to be doing this. How they’re going to do it is by looking for comparable items in the marketplace and by hiring an appraiser to evaluate them. You or your friend can do the same if you want to make sure they’re being reasonable but the burden is on them to find appropriate information. Whose insurance is covering it, your friends or the stores?
