It''s been 8.25% for many years. TX does not have a state income tax though.

Southeastern PA is 6%( but not on food or clothing), but it is 7% in Philly and NJ is 7% again (it has gone between 6 & 7). If I buy a big ticket item, I go to Delaware where there is no sales tax!

Although whenever I go out of state I always forget about tax the first few times I buy something and somebody was to remind me why I''m paying more!

15%, down from 17.5% in London--but in December of this year it goes back up (I think it's this December? or Jan 1st 2010?).

I do the same thing! The cashiers give me the craziest looks when I enquire about the total

I''m from New York state, and ours ranges from 7% to 8.75%, depending on your county. The state tax is 4%, and then each county has its own rate on top of that.

Ditto! I am in grad school in DE so I try and do the majority of our shopping on my way to and from school.

And has been for years. One of the few states that actually has a surplus right now. *Sigh* I miss WV.

In Los Angeles, it is 8.25% (will be going up).

I live in Delaware this year, and this is the only thing I like about it

Back home, upstate NY near Buffalo, I think they''re at a pricey 8.75%. NY state is horrible for taxes in general. I am moving to Maryland this summer and I believe the taxes are very high there, as well

21.5% (Ireland)

If that was not bad enough; our Government have announced they will (probably) be putting up taxes before the end of this month.

15% right now - or is it 15.5%? It was 17.5% until December and then was dropped for a one year period, I think. I live in England.

Hmm. Depends on what state I am in at the moment. In DE (where I work) it 0%. In RI (where I am from) its 8%. In PA (where I live now) its 7%.

You bet I buy as much as I can in DE to save the tax! It took some getting used to living there but now when I buy something outside of DE I am almost offended that they want to tax me!

Used to be 5%, maybe 10 years ago? Which made it super easy to calculate ST on everything. We don''t have ST on groceries, but there is ST on restaurant food.

10.25% in suburban Cook(Chicago). It''s so bad that towns are talking about creating their own county just to get out of Cook because all we do is pay for the city. I live right near Lake County, so I bought a lot of my wedding related items in Lake and I go buy gas in Lake all the time too!
