Hi,

I found a 6.3 ct flawless diamond (statement from a jeweller) during my last fishing trip in northern Quebec and I was wondering what could be a realistic price to get from it and where could I sell it for that price?

Thanks

How do you just find a 6.3ct flawless diamond? Is it cut or rough?

Yeah, some luck!

So, are you single?

what?!

HI;

"I have a piece of string, how long is it"? (Holloway, 2004).

Of the three crucial "C"s (color, clarity, cut) you have told us two. One O/P-FL would be many times less expensive than a D/FL. Besides, it does make a difference who sais the diamodn is "flawless" - the reputation of the grading lab is one substantial pricing factor for the high greades and valuable diamonds.

Sometimes I hear D-IF diamonds being calles "flawless", instead of GIA's rarely heard of top clarity grade ("FL" as opposed to "IF" that is).. Is this the case ?

Well, the strangest thing happened...I went out to walk the dog and I tripped over some gold bullion

Are you sure it wasn't something you stepped in while walking the dog?

Alex: if you did find a flawless diamond maybe you should investigate the lost property rights in your Province. I didn't think diamonds were indigenous to Quebec only North West Teritories/Yukon. If so, mineral rights are usually retained by the crown. Either way you probably have to turn it in to the authorities

I've heard that many companies are exploring in that region. I didn't know that a rock of the size of a quarter was the property of the Province/Country... If this is the case, I will either send it back to the river or I'll use it as a decorative stone in my backyard...

It's rough. The jeweller told me that if he would be cutting it, it was going to be flawless.

I'm not sure if there are such persons (in your area), but you might want to see if you can pay for an independant appraisal to see if what the jeweler claims is true (and in case the jeweler 'forgets where he put' that beautiful stone if you let him cut it).

After that, you might want to have the stone evaluated by a company like Eightstar, who have cut some impressive stones, who specialize in cutting stones as 'perfect'-ly as possible, so that all of the possible beauty of that stone is brought out by the cut.

A stone like that once it was a known quality (by being cut, not rough) would move much more easily.... and in the case of an Eightstar, could command a MUCH higher price than is currently possible.

Think of it this way.... often on 'Antiques Roadshow' a treasure is found in questionable (collectible) condition. What is recommended to the owner is to put some money (say $2000 max) into what he has, in order for it to be worth 2-4 times what it is currently worth (where the $2000 investment would constitute less than 20% of the current value and less than 7% of its final sale price).

first, make sure it's a diamond. if it's indeed 6.3 carats (1.26 gr) but the size of a quarter, you've got a chunk of plastic, not diamond.

MMM, it's time for you and I to take a fishing trip..........
