i was curious as to how much do some melee diamonds cost?
G/H VS grades
0.5 pointers
1.0 pointers
1.5 pointers
2.0 pointers

at least well cut near h&a standards

Get your jeweler to source for you and priced for you.

Something like this. But not sure how well cut these are, so if you go for better cuts, might pay more.

Retail price roughly about $600-$700 per carat for that size. There are specific manufacturers that cut H&A melee, but those naturally cost a little bit more.

so you are saying about 600-700$ for 100 points (1 carat)
so its about 7USD bucks for a 1 pointer at retail pricing ??!?

thats sounds lower than what i would expect them to sell for.

If you were to buy them in a parcel by themselves with dealers close to the wholesale market, yes. From a small jeweler farther down the ladder, no. Also this is not the buy one stone at a time price, this is a carat a time. Wholesale pricing for large lots is lower than that. H&A melee retail (close to the wholesale market) is about 10-15% higher. At those prices importing directly from the manufacturers I get a fair profit.

Ironically I thought exactly the same way when I first started out in jewelry, but when you deconstruct a $1200 1ct ring and consider that gold being what it is a gram, there''s not room for melee diamonds at $1500 a carat retail to fit in there.

Remember stones added to rings increase markup.

Out of curiosity, why are you looking for melee prices? ;'')

The cost of setting labor is routinely more than the cost of the stones with one pointers. I echo the above that it’s usually wise to source this sort of supplies from whoever you are going to hire to build the ring. Especially if you want a complicated piece or if you plan on being picky about the workmanship, the sort of craftsmen who you want working on your piece are rarely interested in clients who want to bring their own supplies as a cost savings measure. It’s sort of like asking a restaurant for a discount if you bring your own condiments and silverware and then being surprised that it’s not the best restaurants who take you up on this offer.

Around here the dealers are usually charging a little more than in Joshua's neighborhood.

Since I just paid for sixteen G/H color SI clarity melees not too long ago, it''s fresh in my mind. Mine were precision cut H&A stones and I paid $20.- per point.
