I''m in love with a particular dress, but I''m not willing to pay the $2000 it goes for at the shops. I found one on a pre-owned wedding dress website, but unfortunately it''s a size 4 and I''m a size 6-8. For a dress in a very simple style, would it ever be possible to go up one or two sizes? I''m assuming no, that you can only go down by that much, not up, but I thought I would ask the experts! If you think it''s a possibility, I''ll do some more research into it, but if you all think it won''t work I''ll let it go.

I really doubt it unfortunately...most dresses these days just don''t have the extra material to bring it out that much...

When I was asking about alterations, the woman said that they can take it down quite a few sized but not really up it in size.

Are your size 6-8 in real life or in wedding dress size? Because wedding dress sizes run really small- meaning if you are a size 6 in real life, you may need an 8 or 10 in a wedding gown. This then means that the size 4 wedding gown on that website is for someone size 0 or 2 in real life. Just wanted you to realize this as you decide if that dress can be altered to fit you.

Hope you find your dream gown somewhere on the cheap!

You might want to contact the designer and see if you can buy extra fabric, but if it is a designer that sells $2000 dresses, this may not be an option. If you have time, I would keep looking. It it starts as a $2000 dress, the resell is probably still expensive enough that it would be tragic if it doesn''t fit. You might also want to consider having a replica custom made if you live in a place with a talented designers/dressmakers.

Ditto everyone on the altering/sizing issues. However, if you let us know what you''re looking for, I''m always up for a good treasure hunt.
