I'm asking about a traditional style setting with prongs, nothing modern.
Every ring of this style I've seen has dead space between the part of the ring that touches the finger (shank?), and the part that secures the baguettes (and RB). Is that necessary, and what purpose does the space serve?
Ideally I'd like this setting with all stones set as low as possible, culet nearly scraping the finger and no dead space in the profile view of the ring. Maybe even for the shank to be of uniform height/width (but not continuous; there'd need to be an interruption for the low-set stones).
Is this possible while maintaining a traditional face-up view? (For example, I like the top view I posted, but not the profile design).
Any ideas on how it could look?
