How long?

I got engaged over the summer, but we have not done a whole lot of planning yet. We are both finishing school and were planning on saving and getting married in 2008. Of course, this has not prevented me from constantly looking at wedding things, and I found a dress that I absolutely love by Melissa Sweet.

What I don''t know is, how long do wedding dresses stay in stock? I''m so afraid that if I wait too long I won''t be able to get the dress of my dreams, but I don''t want to make this big purchase any sooner than I really have to so I don''t completely empty my bank account. Any advice?

I understand how you feel... My FI and I were engaged on July 14th 2006 and we''ll be married on September 20th 2008, also for school and money reasons. I went dress shopping for a fun three weeks ago... And I feel in love with a dress too. I haven''t been able to find another one exactly like it, but there''s a Maggie I found that''s almost identical and I wish I could buy it! I''m planning on going dress shopping again next summer to buy, so I''m keeping my fingers crossed that it won''t be discontinued by then. I don''t know how long they stay in stock either.

I recently just feel in love with a Melissa Sweet (dora)--i tried it on last weekend, and while i was there i noticed the Hallie (by MS as well) that i thought was my dream dress almost 2 years ago. So, I think that they do stay in stock for a while, but you could call pricilla of boston (go the the MS website and the 1-800 number is listed) and find out if they know for sure.

Dora is beautiful! I''m wearing Lia. I don''t think it''s a matter of stock because you have to order your dress and have it made, so I think it has to do with how long they make the dresses for, which is a really good question. But make sure you check out all the spring 2007 dresses, most, if not all, of them are out now and make sure you don''t like anything in there better.

Lia is a beautiful dress, I haven''t seen Dora, the one I am in love with is Layla, I just hope it looks good when I try it on.

It is hard to say when a dress will be discontinued as it is highly dependent on the popularity of the style. If a certain style is doing well it will stay on the market for a long while. Typically designers will come out with new lines just after January every year. The styles that arent''t doing as well will be discountinued as the new ones come out.

I would probably say hold off on the purchase until you are ready to buy, take pictures and save them so that when you do go shopping again you have something to go from. It is likely that you will be able to find the same style or a dress that is very similar, who knows, by then, its possible they may have come out with new designs that you like even better.
