If I am looking at a 11/21 engagement date, when do I need to purchase a rock and setting?

It looks like most on-line stores have a 30-day return policy so I don''t want to buy too far in advance. However, it looks like this time of year is busy for the industry.

Thanks in advance,
JorgeP

Now is best - you still have good choice - but don't rush - you still have enough time to learn as you go and to overcome any "bumps" in the road, should they occur.

Hi Jorgep!

I was lucky enough to have found my online diamond in less than two weeks.

However, finding the setting for the ring took a bit longer. My girlfriend who had input as to the type of style she wanted, kept changing her mind. In the end, that took about 2 weeks.

And then depending on the backlog of the vendor, it may take an additional week before it's finally completed.

So, if you want to propose in November, NOW is the time to start. Also, I've read that the Christmas rush is about to begin, so there may be delays.

No time like the present. Now would be best. You might run into all kinds of conflicting problems near that date. It would be best to have this decision out of the way and in your pocket. Of course you are going to be running around looking like you have a secret that only you know.

I'd consider doing it now. It obviously depends on the vendor, but I would imagine that for most the 30-Day window doesn't start until you have receipt of the diamond. So time-wise you should be fine for a Nov 21 engagement.

It took me two or three months of serious shopping before i had ring in hand, but I am notoriously slow at making decisions. A normal human should be able to do it much faster.

It looks like you have at least one month before the big day. I would say that now is the best time to start shopping. It may take anywhere from one to three weeks to complete a ring depending on the exact ring design that you choose. It can also take a couple of days in order to select the exact center stone that you would like to purchase. So I wouldn't wait that much longer.

If you are not buyimg "off the rack" so to say, you best hop to it. By my estimation if you are buying on-line and do the necessary searching, it can take 2 to 4 weeks to get a ring. Longer if you are also getting a custom setting or one that requires ordering.
