I just got my lovely ring, with a 1.30ct diamond, 2 weeks ago. I held it and looked at it again and again...and it eventually dropped from my hand and hit the ceramic floor.

How likely a diamond can be broken by dropping it to the floor? I can''t see a crack in it with a 10x ideal scope yet but it maybe because I don''t have an expert eyes. how likely my diamond is broken??first

I can''t help you with your question, but after hearing about the tile floor incident, I just wanted to make sure you get that baby appraised and insured tout de suite (right away).

And P.S. Congratulations on the engagement!

generally where does people go to insure their diamond? how much do you spend a year for the insurance fee?

My jewelry is insured through my home owner''s insurance. Be very careful about where you take off your ring and what you hold it above. Don''t hold it over the sink, drains or over hard surfaces. Don''t take it off outside, either.

I hope it survived the crash landing. An appraiser could tell you for sure. People have gotten their stones repolished when they got damaged or chipped. But hopefully yours is okay.

Its possible you have a "feather" - A naturally occurring inclusion found in a diamond that is not related to carbon deposits. It is essentially a small crack, but unless it is near the surface there is not cause for alarm and no potential durability risk. Visit http://www.niceice.com/diamond_clarity_characteristics.htm for more information on diamonds and their inclusions.

For the record, my stone has a "feather" in it - (which brought the cost WAY down) - otherwise, it is a perfectly beautiful stone. My feather is deep in the body of the stone and not easily visable.

You really shouldn''t be walking around with your ring ithout having insurance. Call your homeowner''s or renter''s insurance company now and tell them about the ring; they may be able to temporarily insure it until you get an appraisal. Bring your ring to an appraiser at a jewerly store (you may need to make an appointment). They should give you the appraisal immediately and then you can fax it to your insurance company. I pay less than $500/year for a three stone ring totalling 2.76, H-I color.

I am sure your ring is fine, but it may be well worth the peace of mind to let a pro check it out. Apparently you can have a separate rider on your homeowners insurance if applicable, but if not, you could try...
