Our tastes evolve so I was wondering how you guys are feeling about your collections right now. All in all I am pretty happy with my collection. A lot has changed in the 15 years since I started. What about you?

I’m content some days and want more stuff other days. Lately I’ve been wondering why I have so much money in jewelry I rarely rare. JM sent me a form to fill out asking about how frequently I wear my stuff and it got me thinking about that.

I'm pretty happy with my small and mighty collection of a few pieces. Sometimes I see others with a big collection and I'm so envious. But I know others have been collecting a lot longer than I have and also my lifestyle now isn't for wearing too much jewellery. So I'm kinda glad I have a small collection that I can wear most of the times

I never wanted a collection. I wanted pieces that I would wear frequently and that is what I did. Diamond jewelry is expensive and I don’t want to buy anything that stays in a drawer or a box. Not the opinion of everyone, and there are many here that have lovely collections that they rotate through frequently. Just not for me, but I do enjoy seeing the pieces that everyone chooses!

I think I'm totally like this too. I do have a few staple items that I'd like to add but I rarely change my jewellery. I'll wear the same earrings, necklace, rings etc if I wear any jewellery.

I just like what I like and don’t change my jewelry around. Totally get what you are saying!

I've given away a lot of stuff these past few years and I'm happy with the things I kept and wear the most. What I'm unhappy about are the things I love that I don't wear often that I keep looking at and saying "I really should put that on today." I also have unset stones I've been thinking about setting for years and I can't seem to settle on how I want to set them.

My tastes haven't changed all that much although I still swing wildly between complex gem encrusted settings and simple clean lined ones, preferring the simpler ones but still drooling over and lusting after over-the-top designs which is why I have those unset stones.

My tastes are still evolving, but I think I've narrowed them down quite a bit in the last year. I know I will always have a wish list, even if some items are pie in the sky. But I too don't want anything languishing in a drawer, so I'm trying to be very deliberate about my next purchases.

I’m happy with my collection in that I love it all and after we finally got the ER right my tastes have not fluctuated. In fact they never changed but initially I had no clue what I liked because I rarely wore jewelry.

I also feel guilty. I feel guilty because I do not wear most of my bling. And it’s wasteful. I don’t always feel like this but I do at the moment.

So many people struggling financially and I can’t help but feel bad. It’s like finishing my plate when I was a little girl. My mom said children are starving and it would be a sin not to finish it all. To this day I eat everything on my plate.

But I do love almost everything in my collection and I go through stages where I wear more of it but for the past few years (or so) I don't wear my stuff. Most of the reason is we are usually out cycling or hiking and I do not wear bling while doing these activities. And some of the reason is I prefer the feel of nothing on my hands, neck, wrists. I love earrings but often don't feel like wearing those either. If I wear bling the most I wear is my engagement ring and earrings. Sometimes a wedding band but often I leave that off too. I have sensory issues for sure

I too have been giving some of my bling away. To my sister and my nieces. Better now than when I am dead. And if I find out the girls don't really want me to leave the major pieces to them I will donate the proceeds to my favorite animal charities. We put aside a percentage of our income for charities so this would just be on top of that.

My long winded explanation sorry. I could've just said yes I love my collection but also feel bad about all that I have

I've been culling my wish list over time, but I don't think I'll ever get it down to 0  I personally love my collection though, I take so long and dither so much over my options that once I actually buy something I can be reasonably sure I'm going to love it (though I have made mistakes a couple times - no one's perfect lol).

So I'm really happy with my collection overall, but I wouldn't consider myself done by any means :D I still have a lot of my staples left to go too.

I’m theoretically done but there are things that I love like random pearl bangles (gosh I can’t resist a pearl bangle) which I will likely buy if I run into them.

I’m really happy with my pieces. I have mostly found a giant ring in every colour. I’m headed to university soon so it will be back to the snot sized rings during days when I have classes.

I feel like I’ve been on a full journey.

Poor uni student wearing mall jewellery who dreamed of nicer things —-> working girl with snot sized rings —-> new mum slowly buying better pieces, lots of mistakes along the way —-> relaxed stay at home mum collecting bigger gems —-> mature age uni student wearing her snot sized rings to school again.

I do love love love CS though and don’t think I’ll ever stop loving colour. Especially since I have a ridiculous AliExpress collection of dresses to match with my rings.

I am especially happy with my collection when I return home after having it in the bank safe deposit box for a few weeks. Then I feel like someone else dropped a stash of free jewelry in my lap. :)

Other than that, I always want more. I really have more than I can use as it is though, given my very casual lifestyle. But there still might be some gaps anyway.

I try to wear each piece ("fine" jewelry and costume jewelry) at least once per year, clear things out each year and have a list of "wants" each year too. So life is just peachy here, in that way. fcccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

The letters above are my cat's statement on the issue.

I'm happy with what I have, but am always looking around and if something really catches my eye, I know I'll go for it. Also have some random stones that I will set eventually.

This is an interesting question and I love reading through the replies. During COVID I sold many things I collected over the years and didn’t wear anymore because they no longer reflected my personality or style. I have gone mostly custom on new pieces. I love the research process; from perusing websites and social media to learning more about vintage/antique design. With gathered inspiration I have been slowly creating new pieces. What makes me happy about my small collection is the success in the details I obsessed over.

This sums up my feelings. "Just because you're full doesn't mean you can't look at the menu."

My problem is that I am constantly skimming menus.:geek2:

I don’t think you can use “small” to describe your collection-maybe “concise.” :lol-2:

Haha and there's always another stomach for desserts!

Haha oh thank you for that. I'll start using "concise" to describe my "collection". Damn that's like two compliments in one sentence!

Yay for the pics and for your story! And I’m stealing that phrase: “snot-sized ring” lolllll

I just bought a yellow diamond ring and it is definitely snot-sized hahaha

Also, indulge me- what is a pearl bangle? Pics? Is it just a bracelet?

I have a frankly obscene amount of jewellery since I’ve been collecting since age 8. The plan was/is to rehome / pass on older pieces when a better new pretty arrives but………….
Some pieces I will always love to the moon and back and even after decades in some cases, still cause a little heart flutter.
Being of course my Opal bracelet, my Almond Blossom Opal Ring, my sapphire and diamond ring and my engagement ring reset.
