I was wondering what some of the experts think of this stone. As a guess, what would you say it is worth if everything is legit and verified by a third party appraiser? This is one of the better stones meeting dimensions in my price range, but I am just a novice.
Thanks for any of the help.

It would be great to see how this one looks, but as much as numbers can say it''s just so. At least a far as I know.

Ana... thanks. Any other opinions. I have trouble dropping this much cash without a few reviews....

I''m no expert, but from those figures, it looks too deep and the table is too large. If you can get the pavilion angle/height, you could check the results from the cut adviser.

ahh wombat... you''ve made the same mistake i once made...

Its a princess cut... rather than a RB... different rules (cant use the cut advisor)

putting those specs in Mr. Atlas'' DIY grading... it comes out a 1A ideal cut princess... so sounds like a good un.

Tho i believe as an extra note... i think also from Mr. atlas... "Better performers will have table/depth at 75% and less, with the table being about 3-5% less than the depth." But its one of those things... have a look and see how you like it...

Well you won''t be a "poorsucker" if you buy this diamond. That''s a great choice. The depth and table are fine. I would go for it. I seriously doubt that you would be dissapointed with a quality diamond like that. Good luck...

Thanks for all of the help. Appreciate it.... Any other thoughts before I spend more money on a stone than my first 2 cars combined? Ouch! Any guesses on what it might be worth?

I have heard that Blue Nile may be overpriced... any idea on what might be a fair price for this stone?

Anyone think that $4200 is a fair price for this rock? I had a really hard time finding princess stones in the 1A AGA category. thanks to all of the experts for your help.

Why the heck you buying from blue nile? Is it a signature stone? If not, blue nile doesn''t own it and anyone can get it. Email or call Mark T and his price will be much better. That''s exactly what I did when I got mine. In fact, he walked right down the street to the manufacturer and had it for me immediately.

Oh yeah, BTW, KILLER princess!

I took the time to run the data through Diamcalc, deduct some measurements, and then compare that to the new cutting guidelines of AGS.

If everything that we do not know about this stone would be at its best, this would be in the future range of AGS 3 or 4. In general, this is not bad, if we know that more than 50% of the current princess-cuts would get a grade of 5 or lower.

However, that price seems rather high, indeed. I would expect similar pricing for the future AGS-0-princess cuts.

Live long,

All-
Thanks for the great discussion.

1. Bump??? How can one tell without the stone in hand? It has a GIA and GCAL cert. How likely is anyone to bump after this? I would get a confimatory cert as well.

2. I am not sure anyone else could get this stone... blue nile signed their name in it. Kindof childish (joking), like when I used to lick my sisters food so only I would benefit.

3. So does anyone make a princess that would be AGS 0 or 1 right now? In my price range 4-5k, I havent found a stone (regardless of reasonable size for the price that might make this cut). Thoughts?

4. If princess cuts are going to get better in the near future, does this mean that prices will bottom out in the market and all princess cuts will become worth less?

5. I never have any drama in my life so this is kindof fun... I have until midnight tomorrow to order the stone or else I might lose it. I will still have 30 days after that and will surely get a confirmatory appraisal. Any tallies of yes vs. no?

6. I cant thank you guys enough for all of the help. It is much appreciated.

Marc

I think the Bump was more to bring the thread back up the listings... rather than a comment on the stone itself.

possably.

I have been looking all around and have not seen many stones similar to this. I realize that it might be a bit overpriced (estimate how much?). I cant seem to find anything else in the price range of 4-5K. Any suggestions?

I decided to at least give it a look. Here is the link. It is going for $4282. Does anyone have any thoughts after looking at the gia and gcal? Thanks- You guys/gals are great.

Live long,

My suggestion is to wait and see when 1) the AGS princess grading starts 2) when the cutters ( like Paul) have inventory to select from.

Of course, this is going to take a little time before this all occurs. So you have to decide to wait or buy now. Most likely, better stones will be available in the future.

Think Paul gave you some useful information.

Any idea on a time frame for this? weeks? months? I have about 1.5 months. Thanks for the help.

GCAL grades cut pretty well... but where''s the link ?

If those better stones do appear, I bet they would carry a serious premium. Perhaps that would tapper down (given that AGS0 princess proportions are way unusual compared to the current stock), but who knows

So... it''s not just the waiting, but perhaps a good budget jumpt too

I got the stone today, and it is wonderful- Thanks for the great advice from everyone. I would also like to say kudos to a couple of people for outstanding service. I will not list the sharks that I have encountered in downtown Chi-town.... The best was something that reminded me of a saturday night live episode. The lady showing me stones called back to the manager, and he came out and empahtically yelled it was the most perfect stone ever. She almost fell out of her chair b/c it was so perfect. Wow- They must really get excited when something is actually better than a AGA 4b. Ok... so you had to be there.

Ed @ Blue Nile- Outstanding customer service

Rick @ Diamond cutters international- He was upfront and told me that he could not sell me a better stone for the money.

Professional Gem services for verification of the GIA/GCAL. They actually graded it higher.

Everyone on pricescope that has taken time to answer the ?s.

Thanks and all the best- I am sure that my future fiance will be appreciative.

Oh that''s wonderful, so glad you got a beauty!!
