If I provide Whiteflash with ideas for a custom wedding set, will they provide me an estimated quote BEFORE I have to put any money down? Or do you have to put money down just to start talking with them about it? Anyone out there with a custom whiteflash ring please let me know! Thanks in advance!

You have to put down $250 for them to take your design and put it into a scaled CAD drawing.

When I went custom with WF they asked for detailed descriptions of what I wanted. Then they ask for a £250 deposit to have the CAD images done. You can ask them to tweak some of the design if its not exactly what you envisioned. Once you go ahead and approve the design I believe thats when you pay for the ring. If you do buy the ring the $250 is deducted from the overall cost of the piece.

I spoke to whiteflash and they were able to give me a quote for the project before I put any money down. Of course if you change anything during the actual design process, the quote will change.

They can generally give you a good ballpark quote before you start but as others have mentioned they won''t proceed to CAD''s, etc. until they have a deposit.

Hi, Brian:

We provide a quote based on your verbal description prior to beginning any work, so no worries there.

Once you've decided to begin the custom project, you pay the $250 non-refundable custom deposit and we begin the project by developing the CAD designs. Once we provide designs, you can elect to move forward (and possibly make minor alterations) or decide not to move forward. If you move forward, the deposit is credited toward the cost of the finished piece.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks Allison! That helps a lot!

This was very helpful to me as well since I am also considering a whiteflash custom project-thanks and good luck with yours!!!

My pleasure!

This sounds like it may only be for a custom setting.

I am in the process of getting a custom setting made and purchasing my diamond from WF.

I asked about the $250 down payment and I was told the only thing I can do is to make a $500 down payment on the diamond to reserve it. It was an out-of-house diamond. I would much rather pay less now ($250) and see the CADs before paying the whole amount, but I haven't been informed that I can do this. In fact, I wasn't even told about the $500 down payment until I brought up the fact that I read about it in this thread.

Justin, you're right - it is only for the custom setting. Since custom work is done to fit the diamond, you need to have purchased a diamond first. Once you select and purchase a stone, that's when we require the $250 deposit to begin the custom project.

From your records, it looks as though the $500 diamond deposit came about at your request. Since it was a virtual diamond, Bob advised you we would have to release it back to the supplier by Tuesday unless payment was made. When you asked to make a deposit to avoid losing the diamond back to the supplier, we were happy to oblige. That wasn't related to the custom setting project, only to preventing the virtual diamond from being returned to the supplier.
