Hi ladies. My SO and I were talking about timelines last night (which HE volunteered as a topic! I love when that happens) and I was wondering, how do rings usually get paid for? Is it something that you pay all at one time? Something that you pay 1/2 for when you order and the other 1/2 when you pick up? Something you make a down payment on and then pay the rest monthly? We will probably go through a typical PS vendor, which I why I ask y'all rather than go looking through all their websites. Thanks. :)

For our diamond, we pay for the whole thing one time.

For the setting, my FI had to pay some deposit then when the ring is ready, pay for the rest.

For mine we used my families local jeweler that we've been using for 20+ years. He's flexible because we're such good customers. But we did half when the order was placed and the remainder when the ring was done.

we got the setting and center stone at different places so we paid for them separately (but in full both times)

^ ditto slg. Went with a PS vendor for the diamond so we paid in full via wire to get the discount. For the setting, we could have paid for half when we ordered and then paid the other half upon completion, but that just seemed annoying so we paid it all upfront.

We purchased from a custom jewelry design shop in our neighborhood and DH paid for it when he picked it up. A friend recently purchased from them as well and they gave him the option to pay when he ordered or when he picked up - he opted to pay when he ordered. So two different methods at the same store! Normally I would want to pay after seeing the final product, but I know this place is willing to re-do anything that the customer doesn't like (they've worked on my ring several times) so I didn't see a problem with my friend paying up front.

I ordered a custom ring from a local jeweler and have even stopped by to approve the wax but have not been asked to pay a dime yet! That's probably the exception. My engagement ring I paid the diamond upfront (ebay!) and setting (Singlestone) 1/2 upfront and 1/2 before it shipped.

I think most online vendors will want full payment up frount and B&M's all work differently.

BF paid for my ring up frount and we just picked it up when it was done.

aAt the B&M I work at we have a huge range of payment options so the customer can do what works for them best. Some pay up frount, we usually take a deposit befor starting custom work but really good customers can pay for it however they want, some want to layby some want to take the ring and make weekly payments, you just have to ask what your options are.

At our B&M where we bought the setting, FI paid half to hold the setting, then purchased the diamond through Blue Nile and paid in full, then took the diamond to be set at our jeweler where he paid the remainder at pickup.

We put a deposit down on the setting and when it was complete, we paid in full. The diamond was paid for in full when it was purchased.

PS vendors ask for payment prior to shipping the ring, in general.

We had the setting custom made so we paid in full prior to starting work on it (we purchased our ring from James Allen). Although, because we made a wire transfer and my FI did it from a different country, the payment was more delayed than what we had expected (it was 5-6 days delayed). However, it didn't effect the completion date for the ring, so I think they started work on it prior to receiving the payment (which was nice, because we were on a little bit of a time crunch).

My FF and I went to a B&M store to buy our engagement ring. We picked out our diamond and setting, and he gave them a down payment. He paid the rest when he picked the finished ring up.

Thanks everyone for responding. :)
