How does crown angle change visual appearance?

Hi. I received my stone from James Allen on Friday and I have been staring at it all weekend. The stats are as follows:

Table 56.9
Depth 60.6
Crown 33.8
Pavilion 40.9
It is an AGS0 and scores a 1.0 on the HCA.

I honestly cannot find anything not to love about it. It is super white and sparkly and has incredible fire. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I would never believe it was an "I." It doesn't have as much dark contrast as the previous stone we purchased, but I think that is why I like this stone better.

Since I am a bit of a perfectionist, I was wondering how the appearance would change if the crown angle was slightly higher. It is within range of AGS0 but I know it falls below what many consider to be ideal between 34-35. I'm not returning the stone, I'm just curious.

Thanks!

Congrats on finding a beautiful diamond!

It's my understanding that a diamond with a crown angle below 34 degrees has a "flat top" appearance. If you look at the profile of the diamond, there is less height starting from the girdle. You may not notice it much with a crown angle of 33.8 degrees. My diamond has a crown angle of 33 degrees and is much flatter than many of the diamonds I see on PS.

I don't think this has much of an effect on the face up beauty of the diamond, especially if the other proportions are complementary (i.e. the diamond is well cut).

That makes sense. You are right. I don't think that it looks flat. It's still an AGS Ideal stone and it's still beautiful!
Thanks!

You're literally a hair under 34, so it's not going to make too much impact in your case. But usually a shallower crown angle can impact durability and increase chipping and can affect how much fire you see. I don't forsee you noticing too much of an issue though. So glad you love this stone! When will you get your completed ring?

Thanks ame! I do love it! Tacori is working on my setting and it should be finished in about 2 weeks. I'm still not sure when I am going to get the ring, but we are going to New York the third week of March and I have a feeling my boyfriend is going to propose. I will post with pics as soon as it happens. Thanks again for your help!
