How do you keep your jewelry organized?

I have lots jewelry. Some gold, a little costume, lots of pearls and chunky sterling. I probably wear a 3rd of my jewelry regularly because I like to accessorize and switch up my jewelry daily. But a lot of it I won't ever get rid of because I do tend to come back to it now and again. My jewelry box is 14x9x11 inches with compartments but is not big enough for everything. I am also using a drawer but everything in there is getting mixed up and somedays I have a hard time finding things in it. I need a good system. Any ideas? What works for you?

I use an old dresser and buy jewelry trays and various inserts specifically made to hold bracelets, watches, rings, etc. The trays fit nicely in the drawers and keep everything organized and untangled.

I have a big jewelry chest that I keep everything in. Most of my jewelry is costume but I just have so much and I wanted it all in one place. There is a small closet in our spare bedroom so I keep my jewelry, purses, and sweaters in there. I lock the closet door when I leave the house.

Here are some pics:

The top section (Ring area - old cheap rings that I don't wear in the back, then silver and rose gold stackers, 3 fake rings, 2 rows of nicer stuff including my wedding set, and then my silver rings. Most of the earring sections are random costume or silver studs. The earring section in the front left are the ones that get worn the most - my diamond studs, pearl studs, peridot with halos, jackets, etc. The unset diamond on the back right is a 0.47 GIA EX F SI1 waiting to be set in a pendant. The loose stones are a 1/3 ct OEC, an oval sapphire, and 2 round tsavorites).

And here is the bottom section. Necklaces hang on the insides of the door. The drawers have dangly earrings and hoops, bracelets, long neclaces, etc.

It's perfect! Not sure I have the room for something quite that size but maybe I could do something half sized. Hmmm. I love the necklace section.

Thanks for the ideas ladies.

   STARGURL!!!   You are my new HERO!!! Holy cow that is AMAZING!!! WOW! I'd love that system you have!

I don't have a great storage system for my jewelry, sadly. I really wear the things I love the most (My BGD studs with the IDJ jackets, my BGD Barbara pendant, my DBTY bracelet I bought from Sarahbear, my IDJ 1/2 eternity with my BGD 3 stone, and my new OEC in the IDJ setting) The rest of my things tend to be Tiffany (which live in their bags in a drawer) or costume type stuff that lives in a jewellry box on my dresser - but they only live there because they have always BEEN there! Oh - I have a whole collection of coloured stone pendants that I used to wear on a variety of silver necklaces... they just live in their velvet bags, but I know what is in there by touch.

I'd love something like this chest - or even better - I once designed a jewelry 'station' for a client of mine who had it custom made by a closet company and had a series of drawers that were suede lined for her pieces. It was TDF in her built in closet - I *so* wish I had the space to do the same!!!

Thank you Enerchi and innerkitten! We don't have a ton of storage space, so I feel a bit guilty using up part of a closet to store my jewelry. But I wanted to be able to lock it up when we're not home (I feel like I'm always hearing stories of people's homes getting broken into lately! :knockout: ). I used to have jewelry in drawers and in small jewelry storage compartments but it was always unorganized and I had trouble finding things. So when I found that big chest on sale, I figured I would go for it and I'm happy I did! I love having everything in one place.

I'm not very organised. I have an earring tree which holds all my earrings, and then two small jewelery boxes which hold rings, bracelets, necklaces, and odds and sods. I find there aren't enough ring holders so I put them on top of the earring tree, and I have necklaces hooked over earrings so they hang down on the earring tree. I can find everything pretty easily and quickly, but mostly because I wear the same stuff again and again.

I love the idea of a dresser for jewellery! I have no space in the flat, but someday!

I'm no Stargurl, but I thought I'd share anyway, lol.

I keep the things I wear most displayed on my desk.

I really need one that's not flocked because it attracts dust like crazy. And you can only keep necklaces of different lengths on it.

I have this jewelry box that I got earlier this year and which is a nice size for the amount of stuff I currently have. I bought ring trays for most of the drawers that have dividers, but they're smaller than the drawers so I was thinking of making some myself out of foam and fabric. The guy who made it had big ones like Stargurl's which I LOVED but they were like 3k. And also I don't have enough jewelry to fill them.

It has crushed up turquoise inlaid in the top.

I also have a hanging thing that goes in my closet for my less-frequently-worn things (beaded necklaces, cameos, all the bracelets I own, etc):

My ideal storage solution would be a lighted showcase like in a jewelry store. heee. Or even just showcased on shelves without special lighting! With jewelry and clothes, I operate on the "out of sight, out of mind" principle, so I usually completely forget about stuff that's in the jewelry box or closet hangar. I don't have enough floor space for a case or enough wall space for jewelry shelves, but maybe in our next house! I wonder sometimes about the safety of having it displayed, but I don't have anywhere to lock it up anyway, so it doesn't really matter. All my jewelry boxes look obviously like jewelry boxes and could easily be carried away even if they could lock.

Stargurl - amazing collection and great organizational skills! :))

I have a jewelry hanger in my closet that is a little statue with metal hooks that extend out that I hang my necklaces on and my dangling earrings. Then, this may be a bit unusual, but I have a cute delicate pink scarf with little cut outs in it that I weave my stud earrings through. That is wrapped around my dresser mirror. Not sure if my description makes sense. Most of my jewelry is in my safe deposit box. After my ACAs disappeared, I moved everything I don't regularly wear to the bank. So I probably have about 10 items I keep at home!

Oh lordy lordy....I'm so jealous of the huge jewelry dresser. I have no organization...none. It's patetic really. :errrr:

Being organized is the way to go to prevent kinked chains, scratched gemstones
and pulled prongs. But please remember to implement security measures in your home.
Thieves have no problems taking unbolted safes or armoires right out the door.

I really like the turquoise inlay. Very cool.

So you got Dreamer's pendant! Score!

This is how I organize my costume pieces (and some real stuff mixed in but most of my nice pieces I wear daily or keep in my closet).
