How do I take a pic of my ring?

I apologize for asking this question b/c I know that it has been asked here before but I have searched the forum and can''t find the answer. I am trying to take some photos of an antique ring of white gold and diamonds to post in the old cut lovers thread. Of course, the autofocus can''t focus on the ring b/c of the sparkle and light. Would someone please remind me of how to do this?
