DH and I are throwing a big 4th of July party at our house for our one year anniversary. We''re celebrating our anni, and we''re calling it a housewarming/bon voyage party for my sister (AngryElf here on PS) who is leaving the next day for one year in Israel. It''s an "Inappropriately Funny T-Shirt Party" just because we thought that would be fun. We invited about 100 people, so let''s hope it''s nice outside that day!

So, that''s what we''re doing. Some of my friends are shocked that we aren''t planning a fancy, romantic trip away. Others suggested a nice dinner out. And most can''t believe that I''m trying to get DH to wear a t-shirt that has a stick figure bride and groom on it and says "Game over" at the bottom--COME ON! That''s funny! It''s our wedding anniversary! And it''s INDEPENDENCE day--if you can''t have fun with that, I really don''t know what to say.

Anyway, it just made me wonder what people DID do for their one year anniversary. So, what did you do?

I just wanted to say Haven that I can''t believe its been a year for you already! Early congrats!

We''re actually going to be going to a wedding! Well, almost. We got married on October 25th and friends of ours are getting married this year on the 26th, and we plan to attend.

Your party sounds like so much fun Haven.

Well DH and I have been married for 28 years.

But, for our 1st wedding anniversary, we went back to Santa Cruz, CA, where we were married. Stayed in the same hotel and in the same room. It was so much fun. The next day, we went to The Boardwalk and went on all of the rides.

Sounds like fun Haven!

We went to Hawaii for the typical honeymoon which we did not get to have after we got married (due to family from Australia being over). It was a lovely first anniversary. Too bad I was pregnant - curbed the celebrations somewhat!!

Happy 1 year anniversary Haven! Your plans sound great.

For our one year, we went out to dinner to a restaurant I really wanted to try. I had a melt down about our table location (I''d made specific requests when I made the reservation) but that''s a different story! Dinner ended up being great and we had a wonderful time. Then the following weekend, DH took me to Chicago for a long weekend. He did all the planning and we had a really wonderful time. He let me drag him to all the museums I wanted to see (and he hates museums) and got us tickets to a taping of Wait, Wait Don''t Tell Me, which I LOVED (and Moby was the guest, which was awesome!).

For our second anniversary we did an "in town" weekend- went to the King Tut exhibit, did a nice dinner and brunch the following day.

I surprised hubby (and myself for going

) with a hot air balloon ride for our first anni! It came with a bottle of champagne afterwards.

We took a 2 week cruise to Hawaii for our 1 yr anniversary. BTW Happy 1 yr ANNIVERSARY! Hope for MANY MANY MORE

Not married yet (one more week!), but I wanted to share what my friend did. She and her husband took an amazing trip to Spain! For their honeymoon, they went to Europe, then they repeated with another fabulous trip on their first anniversary. I think it''s a wonderful idea, and I''m definitely going to recommend (

) to my soon-to-be-DH that we should do the same.

Haven, that sounds like a great anniversary celebration with all those people. You and your DH seem to have a great sense of humor.
My DH made dinner for me on our first year anniversary (this past May) and we just spent the day hanging out. I remember we rearranged some furniture and played tennis. No romantic getaway for us. We might go to Playa Mujeres in August as a belated getaway.
I also got a 3 sided pave eternity band to mark the first year.

I was on bedrest-so we did nothing.

Well DH cooked...but that is a fairly regular occurrence!

I started my residency, on call, on our one year...

Oh what a celebration it was. haha. Not so much.

Your idea sounds wonderful though, Haven.

eta- This year on our second anniversary, I will start the second part of my residency (stressful!) Yes, I chose an awesome day to get married. Our anniversary will always fall on the day that residency classes move up a year.

We went to the ballgame. The Milwaukee Brewers were our home team at that time. We often go to the ballgame. So glad we were married during baseball season.

My favorite anniversary was when our son was in Little League and we went to his game and our anniversary dinner was hotdogs and a coke. It was a beautiful, soft spring evening and no better place to be, IMHO. But the best moment was when one of the coaches spoke to the parents sitting watching the game and said he wouldn''t be at the next game because it was his anniversary and he (wink, wink) had to take his wife out to dinner. I piped up and said, Bring her to the game and give her a hotdog. Today is our anniversary and we are here.

Don''t worry, sometimes we go out for a romantic dinner. But, this year I think hubby is going to be working.

Will be 29 years in September. We MOVED from one state to another

I can''t remember! Haha. I was 7 months preggo at the time. I am sure we went to dinner. That''s probably it.

We took a long trip to Las Vegas. It was perfect!

hi haven :)

i cant really remember our first anniversary. i know we were both students, as we married in the middle of our respective degrees and spent the first 15 months together at university (fabulous fun!). i know we had ZERO money at one year, so probably had a night at home celebrating.

however, for our third anniversary we went back to the place where we were married which was half restaurant and half reception house. it was originally built as a monastery - all stone and gothic looking - gorgeous! tim had arranged with the chef to recreate the same meal we had at our reception, and had 3 dozen pink roses delivered to the restaurant for me in one big bouquet. he paid for everything ahead of time, so there was no money changing hands, and half way through dinner he took me for a stroll through the gardens which were all lit with fairy lights.

it was stunning - one of the most romantic evenings of my life, and i''ll never forget it. :) i hope this is ok, but i''ve attached a photo of where we had our reception and our third anniversary....

OMG, LOL!!!! Haven, can I please come!!! I think FI wants that shirt to wear on our plane ride to the honeymoon after the wedding!!!

Our first year is coming up, i think we''re going to have dinner at the same place we had our rehearsal dinner. I liked that restaurant better, it was so much more intimate. Then in Nov we''re going to Hawaii for a late honeymoon, if i can ever figure out how to plan this all out...

Awesome party idea Haven!
Hoping that your sister has a safe and happy year in Israel. Do you have family there? We are headed there the end of the summer, nothing like Tel Aviv in the heat!

We went to NYC for a weekend of family time and then extended with a B&B in the Berkshires. So nice! The place we stayed had a ghost with a romantic story, but we didn''t encounter her (or know about her prior to arrival).

oh Whitby that place is STUNNING
30.gif

thanks atroop :)

it was really medieval - flags flying from all the turrets etc - just gorgeous. and inside it''s STUNNING. but it stil has that slightly spooking vibe of being a monastery, so it''s a very gothic-romantic type of place, very atmospheric and wonderful. :)

by the way - i started a thread a few days ago titled ''atroop'' - asking how you were recovering from the renovations and how your back was holding up with all of it, but you weren''t around, and it passed off the main page without you seeing it, i think.

anyway, just wanted you to know i''d been thinking of you and hoping your remodeling didn''t knock you around too much.

and welcome to the school holidays! put your feet up and don''t leave the house!!

Hey Whitby

Yes I answered the thread but not sure what happened to it...anyway the renovations are done. My husband (who's in the construction field)built our son Noah a room within our living room area. It took a while since he was doing this after work and weekends. He also did it all alone but having such a handy husband works out. Saved us a TON of money not having to hire a contractor. I'm still living in a mess. The kids areas are done and clean but my room is a WRECK. I haven't been able to find the time to work on the room (which was a dumping ground during renovation). I have to hire someone to come in and clean for me. My back has been HORRIBLE lately especially with all of the wet weather we've had here. I was fortunate to be able to stay with my parents during construction (they live in the next building) but glad to be back home.

Yes I'm completely PSYCHED that school is done and now I can relax until camp starts! I really can't wait for our family vacation in August to Punta Cana DR...that's what I'm really excited about. Time on the beach is all I need!

How are you feeling?

We should meet for lunch one day if you're ever in the city

Your idea sounds great, Haven!

DH and I celebrated our fist anniversary at our summer villa, just the two of us and a few bottles of wine. Oh, and we recorded a message for our grandchildren on the camera so they could see what their grandparents were like on their first wedding anniversary. And yes, before anyone asks, by that time the wine was already gone so I don't know what the grandchildren will think of us. lol

Haven, I think that sounds like a really fun way to celebrate!

We didn''t get to take our honeymoon after our wedding last year so we are going to French Polynesia over our anniversary.

i knew it. i knew your back was struggling. i mean - how could it not be? anyone''s back takes a hammering during home renovations (excuse the pun pls!) take it easy, ok?

would love to meet for lunch - but it would have to be in a while if thats ok. i have a friend from australia here for 3 months, then i go home to australia for a month, then tim and i go away as soon as i return. all the dates join up end to end till october! would love to get together at that point, tho, if that suits. i wont forget, and will chase you up closer to the date - would love to meet you :) how do we do that, by the way? can we contact the mods and ask them to exchange email addresses for us? i''m happy to do that right now if that works for you. let me know, and we can both drop the mods a line and ask them to exchange email addresses for us (i *think* they''ll do that - i dont know how to do it otherwise)

feet up today, missy!

haven - pls excuse the above shameless thread-jack. i think your plan for your first anniversary sounds FABULOUS - and exactly the sort of thing i''d enjoy.

and girl, you''ve gotta market those t-shirts - seriously. (!!)

Haven that sounds like such fun!!! I wanna come, LOL!

We went to Cedar Point (amusement park) for the weekend on our first anniversary.
