How are these diamond sizes for 3 stone Round on 4.3 finger?

I am considering buying a three stone round brilliant engagement ring with a 1.86 ct center stone, and two .4 ct side stones. My girl is petite and has a 4.25 size finger. SO, my questions are:

1) Would the center stone be too big (if there is such a thing) for a 4.25 finger?
2) What are your thoughts on the ratio of center stone size to side stone size? My thinking here was that I wanted the center stone to pop/stand out from the side stones
3) Up to this point all of my energy has gone into finding the perfect center stone (good color/clarity, excellent HCA score, etc.), but what about the side stones? Given that they're only .4 ct each, do I still need stones that have an excellent HCA score, etc.? or can I save some money here given how small they are?

I would go with a 1.5 ct center (or maybe 1.6) and half carat sides. I think the size you mentioned may be too big for her finger size. Here is a chart that will show you the proportions with 1.5 plus .5 sides. That would cover about 18mm of finger space. You could still do .4 sides with the 1.5 center if you wanted smaller sides.

Oh, and yes, you absolutely want ideal cut stones on the sides to match your center stone!

Thanks! Would love to hear other opinions on this. Do others agree that I should go down to around 1.6 ct for the center stone given the small finger size? I'm still within my budget with the 1.86 ct, so price isn't a consideration.

I'd go with the bigger stone, but downsize the side stones to 30pts

That is also an option which could work. I feel like that is more of a center stone with accent sides, but that is fine if that is what he is aiming for!

Yes, or even 25 pointers. It's a matter of personal preference, but I like the look of smaller side stones so that the center stone can pop.

Just to mix things up a bit - would she like colored side stones? The center stone would really stand out.
