I saw this diamond today at The Houston Science Museum Diamond Exhibit. The exhibit closes soon and I had to get there before it left.

edited to add the golden diamond is 407.48 ct. !

Anyway, for those of you who were thinking of going, IMHO, not worth the $22.00 entrance fee. The exhibit was just kinda, blah. First, it
was small. I didn't like the layout, too crowded, you had to wait too long to look and then read the info cards. Emphasis was on the creation of a diamond.
The actual number of diamond pieces was a lot fewer than I was expecting. Some pieces were quite old, while a few were newer designs. The Incomparable stone was the exhibit's central showpiece. No camera's were allowed, no cell phones. I was prepared to take lots of pics. Besides this huge gold diamond, my other favorite was
a lariat with 2 pinkish diamond briolettes on a gorgeous diamond chain/necklace.

Lori
I hope you get better soon.
The museum was packed, I''ve never seen it like that.
I was very disappointed in the exhibit. Who puts a chocolate diamond on a black background, duh !!
I''d love to hear someone else''s report - maybe it was just me, but for all the hype surrounding this exhibit
you''d think it was to die for, not so.

Hope the Texans win tonight lori ;)

Judging by all of the hype and hoopla that surrounded the diamond exhibit upon its opening, I was truly expecting to be wowed and dazzled. Unfortunately, I was completely underwhelmed as well

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment on all counts, bebe. In fact, I ended up feeling kinda awful for dragging my poor boyfriend with me to check it out

On the plus side, however, we both enjoyed looking at the gems and minerals up on the second floor. The Gem Vault with the jewelry was particularly neat. Hadn't seen that addition before! Overall though, we probably would've been better off going to see the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit instead.

Hmph! The Texans lost

Hey Lex!

When did you go? When I was there it was packed (Friday morning) - I have never seen the museum like that. I know that added to my negative experience. For all the hype, I was expecting hordes of bling - but it was the exact opposite. I love the Gem Vault, been in there about 3 times. Love it and you can take pictures!! ha ha

I went on a Saturday afternoon sometime back in June, and the museum was super duper packed as well. ''Twas very off-putting! And darn, it didn''t occur to me to take pics in the Gem Vault. Maybe next time!

I guess that I''ll need to find some substitute excursion for ogling sparklies since that didn''t satiate me too much. There''s gotta be something else out there, right?
