Hello everybody,

Love your forum!

I am in Australia and have been shopping online for an engagement ring for a few weeks now.

Would like your thoughts on this diamond/ring combination before going ahead with it.

The diamond:

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3741745-0.85-carat-Round-diamond-G-color-VS2-clarity.aspx (buying from Ritani)

Cut IDEAL
Color G
Clarity VS2
Polish EXCELLENT
Symmetry EXCELLENT
Fluorescence NONE

Ritani is getting the geologist to go through a few tests on the diamond tonight for me and let me know their findings.

And this setting:

Any thoughts or recommendations are much appreciated as I am very new to all of this.

Cheers

I have noticed that the HCA rating of that diamond is quite high (above 3.5). I could probably do better?

Yes, you need to keep looking. This one is a bit deep and the angles may not be playing well together. You need an idealscope
image but I dont think you can get one.

Here is a "cheat" sheet...there are nice stones that fall outside of these ranges but without idealscope/aset images it will be hard
to determine their light return.

depth - 60 - 62% - some PSers will go up to 62.3%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above
