I am asking this for my daughter who is planning a wedding for the holidays! More details later!

Where can you go that it is warm in Dec. but do not have to have a passport (from southeast us)?

They want somewhere that will be in the 80's at least in Dec. (swimsuit weather)?

Hawaii perhaps but it is one of the wettest months I believe. However, the water temps are in the mid 70's F and the air temp ranges from 80's to 60's in the evening.
Congrats on your daughter's engagement! Best wishes!!

Also, I think certain parts of Arizona and California and Florida are in the 80's in December. Actually there are a lot of states/cities to choose from...

Thanks! I was thinking maybe south Fla., the Bahamas, Virgin Islands??? Not sure about passports to any of those. Have a million things to do so we haven't had time to focus on the honeymoon!

I was going to suggest Bermuda, but even though I've been there, I can't remember if I needed a passport. I know I took mine just in case but I forget if it was required. I'm not sure about other islands. Not having a passport makes it a bit tricky.

The Florida Keys? I'm not sure the water will be warm though. We went in Feb. 2 years ago and it {the ocean} was too cold for me, but we had a blast.

AZ would be my other suggestion if they're interested in visiting the southwest. I've never been there but I suggested it because the weather's warm and they won't need a passport. I have heard it's beautiful though!

Congratulations to your daughter, DS! I can't wait to hear details.

I live in South Florida (and have all my 22 years). December is really weird here, some Christmases I vividly remember going to the beach because it was so warm. Other years it's been so cold we wake up with frost on the windows, and then it we get rain a frigid, horrible rain too,

It's been really cold here the last few days (like low 50's at night) and the Gulf is apparently pretty freaking cold right now, too. But five days ago it was hot as crap (high 80's low 90's).

Basically what that boils down to is that I wouldn't bank on South Florida being warm all of December because our weather is strangely unpredictable.

Okay, this is good to know about FL. I am afraid Bermuda would be too cool at that time of year, too. They just wanted to avoid the expense of expedited passports, if possible. Didn't want a major long flight because they'll only have 5 nights. Crazy but they already have flights for Miami Dec, 25-28 to visit his parents but the honeymoon will be the week before! We've been so busy with other things that they just haven't had the time to deal with the travel plans yet. But they'll get to it, I'm sure! Thanks, everyone!

I would highly recommend St. Thomas in the USVI. No passport is required unless you chose to visit the British Virgin Islands on a day trip or something. I was just there in September and had a wonderful time! I stayed at an all-inclusive resort and it was very reasonable. Some of the most beautiful beaches and crystal clear water I have ever seen! If they go there, suggest they visit Trunk Bay on St. John. They will NOT be disappointed. The weather is about the same year round (high 70s and above) with maybe a passing shower in the afternoons occasionally. I love it there.

I would second the USVI - no passport and gorgeous! While Bermuda is incredible, they require a US passport and is generally cool (60's) in the winter. Hawaii is AMAZING (just got back from our honeymoon to HI), but the weather was a little iffy on Maui. What about southern California (San Diego or Palm Springs area)?

Best of luck and congrats!

When I went to the Bahamas in 06 I needed a passport. We went over xmas and it was actually a little chilly and rainy... go figure.

The Bahamas requires a passport, unfortunately, or I would absolutely recommend it. I'm going there on Saturday, actually

Unfortunately you need a passport to go to any of the islands except Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Maybe that would be an option?

The USVI and Puerto Rico do not require passports for travel by US citizens.

You can do a closed-loop cruise (meaning you leave and come back to the same port) with a birth certificate, no passport needed (recommended, but not needed).

Also- Palm Springs is that warm during December. I would imagine Florida would be a good choice as well.

Why don't they want to get passports?

It might not take them that long to get a passport even if they don't expedite them. DH and I had to renew ours in 2007 when everyone was in that mad rush because of the requirement change. It took over 2 months. A year and a half later I got our son a passport, non-expedited, and it only took two weeks! The other option is if they live near a city where passports are issued from can go in an apply in person.

I second this. I'm going on a cruise in a few weeks and three in our group needed passports. They all got them in less than two weeks. My boyfriend got his in about 10 days. His application was submitted at a post office and he used normal processing.

I third this. I got mine in two or three weeks and did not have it expedited.

That said, if you still want to avoid passports, we got married in Hawaii (Maui to be exact) at Christmastime in 2008 and the weather was wonderful. It only rained one day of the week that we were there and it was brief. The temperatures were 75 during the day, 65-ish at night, but it stayed warm well into dinner-time, as we ate outside a lot.

ST. JOHN! It's in the USVI, so no passport necessary, and it is GORGEOUS.

We spent ten days there for our honeymoon and it was wonderful. We spent a bit of time on St. Thomas and I thought it was pretty dumpy, especially compared to St. John. You can't go wrong with St. John. I loved it and can't wait to go back.

If they can get passports, then they can take the ferry from St. John to some of the BVIs, which are gorgeous, too.

I don't know what the weather is like that time of year, but what about Vegas? I'm pretty sure that the weather there is still going to be really nice, and there will be plenty of places to swim, and lots to do.

Negative! NOT warm lol! We were in Vegas last year celebrating our anniversary Dec. 21-24th and it was in the 40's during the day, 20's/30's at night. It's a desert, so while they are really hot in the summer, they are also cold in the winter.

Boo!!! I was toying with the idea of eloping there on our anniversary in a few years, which is 12/24. That probably won't work, as I really want nice, warm weather. ;(

Sorry, I guess I am no help here!

USVI! No passport- so St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, also Puerto Rico. Warm, beach tropical feel, no passport needed!
