I put in the specs from the diamond that I am looking at, in the calculator for the Holloway Cut advisor and it came back with a score of 1.5, with Excellent Light Return and Very Good on Fire, Scintillation and Spread. How accurate is this report? Can it be used as a general guideline, or are there other factors (besides color and clarity of course) that may influence how a diamond will look?

Thank you

Golovast, use it as a preliminary filter. A score below 2 means you have eliminated known poor performers (more than 95% of all diamonds). Your own personal preference may be for a diamond with an HCA score of 1.5 more rather than one with a lower score of say 0.5.

There are other factors of course (symmetry, girdle, minor facets, etc).

For example, some stones with HCA<2 can be very bright bat have less contrast or fire and vice versa. Use yor own eyes and other information available.

Does anyone know if the source is available for the Advisor? I wouldn't mind having it running on my palm while I'm looking at stones, rather than memorizing a bunch of numbers.

Of course there would be issues porting it, but thats no big deal (since thats all I ever seem to do.... heh)

We have desktop version which also takes girdle thickness into account. I would wait a couple of days though to see what GIA will announce in Basel this week.
