Hi! New to this research and trying, like everyone else, to make heads or tails out of everything I read about blue flor. I like the high color grades (E and F are my favorites) and middle clarity (VS2-ish) and have read that faint flor. is fine in high colors, but may actually be beneficial to color in lower grades. Where does that start? G or H? Or lower? Also, what effect does MB Flor have on E and F -- or is it individual to each stone? One more thing: I have noticed in some of the beautiful close-ups of RB stones that have some blue Flor, there is often a very colorful, irridescent sparkle of pinks, blues or violet (and sometimes all 3)...or is that a reflection of what the owner is wearing at the time of the photograph? I''m confused...

I know this has been extensively discussed here & there, but I wanted to ask my ?? about the other pastel colors I think I keep seeing in pics of stones with blue flor. Some of those pictures are breathtaking!

If you have a stone with blue flor, please tell me what drew you to it - and what you see in it that you like. Please include your color grade and the level of blue flor your stone has!

Thanks for humoring me!

Ive got a princess cut D VS1 with medium flourecence and i love it and in the sunlight it does have a pinkish/violet look to it and in some lights it does have more blue sparkles, it really depends on the lighting but i dont think its a reflection of what im wearing, im not too sure what drew me to go with flourecence it could be its a little differant from the norm in the uk and when i read into thing in this forum i liked what i heard and i think the fact that it have med blue in a D discounted the price a little. Im just over the moon with our purchase and love the ring. But my choice was no higher than medium although some people here love the strong blue.

And there was enough fighting that daddy had to pull the car over...

Hi! I have a 3.56 E color pear with strong blue flourescence. The flourescence doesn''t affect the way the stone faces up - I regard it as an extra added attraction. The only reason not to buy a stone with flourescence is when the stone looks milky.

Thanks for the responses, everyone...

ok172 - your description of your stone and the way it handles light intrigues me! The idea that a diamond might send off flashes of light in the blue range does not offend me one bit.

Any chances you have pictures of your stone? I realize the pictures likely won''t likely illustrate this phenomenon, but I''d still like to see..

Garry (cutnut) - "D with blue flouro is fantastic" - that sounds equally intriguing. Can you expand on that for me? Are you familiar with E or F with blue flouro and what have you noted there? Also - do you "recommend" (or if "recommend" isn''t the right word, at least like) faint flouro or medium in high color diamonds...?

Madam Bijoux - any chance you have pictures of your stone on this site somewhere? Not only would I like to see it regarding flouro, I also wouldn''t mind seeing a big, beautiful pear. I have a 1 carat pear myself (E, VS2, no flouro, GIA "good" symetry - but I see its symetry issue too easily now

) ...but am looking for a new stone to torture my sweet hubby with for our 10th anniversary in the next year. Just trying to get an understanding of the various flouro issues/benefits...

Thanks for all of your help...

3shebabes,

do a search here on fluor. and you will find some really great info. I personally am a huge fan and would love to own a high color stone with it. I pretty sure kaleigh''s tiffany ring is a E with med. blue fluor. I think the effect of the fluor. on a D would be incredbile too.

I don''t have any pictures of it posted here yet. I''m waiting to take pictures until my Royal Asscher is done (they think it will be next week). Once I have the RA, I''ll be taking pictures of everything.

Hiya!

Blue fluoro in a D/E/F stone is just GORGEOUS, and I can attest to that!
When I first started my diamond hunt, I was looking for something with it, and found my beautiful .55ct D/IF with strong blue!
Not only did it glow in blacklight (which is what attracted me to the idea in the first place....I'm kinda nerdy;-), but it also glowed a stunning blue/violet color in the sunlight (yay for high UV days, LOL!).

My stone is perfectly clear and crisp white in other light. It's rare that a stone with fluoro has any haziness but you want to make sure. I had the folks and Good Old Gold check it out for me, and they were right about it being a beauty....!

I'm currently looking for 3 more stones for the matching pendant and earring set to my ring, and of course, I'm sticking to my 'theme'.
I know I have a lot of pictures on my hard drive of it out in the sunlight doing it's blue dance, but I'd have to search for them. For now, here are some pictures of the ring, and the diamond with some serious fire:

Hope you get a nice fluoro stone....don't be shy about getting one with strong either!

I have a D with medium blue fluor and I love it. When I took it to be appraised, the appraiser said it was one of the whitest stones he had ever seen and that it looked "crisper" white than even a D usually does. I love staring at it in sunlight: sometimes it has a violet glow to it, other times there are just glints of steely blue. But then again, I have read on PS that most diamonds do this in sunlight, so it may have nothing to do with the fluor. At any rate, the med blue fluor certainly does not have any negative effect.

Unfortunately, I have never mastered macro mode, so I don''t have any pics of my ring on PS.

I have an antique K colored OMC with strong blue flor. I have yet to take sunlight pics of it, but in this pic (taken indoors at night under artificial lighting) you can see that the flor makes the stone face up very white.

And in this pic you can really see the K coloring, though it''s not nearly as yellow in real life - the lighting is causing the color to appear more saturated than it looks in person.

I have an E with medium blue fluorescence and plan on seeking out this combo again in the future; Kay described its effect perfectly.

My wife is currently wearing an F Strong (or maybe uit is very strong).
I prefer D, but there were other reasons for this stone - so F it is

Hey - thanks everyone ( StarSpun,Kay, ericad, fleur-de-lis and Garry) for the input, once more...

StarSpun: Thanks for sharing your personal take on flouro! The picture with the beautiful blue flash of light was wonderful. Makes me really want to seek out some stones with flouro in person and experiment with them...

Also -- ericad -- your picture nicely illustrated the whitening benefit in your stone. Thanks...

Garry - my "target" color for the new stone I am seeking will most likely be E or F. I have an E currently and love the whiteness - but because I want to go larger this time, I thought I''d slightly lower my color target to save a tad of money - but I can''t go much farther as I really spot color in diamonds and I prefer the whiteness. It''s good to know, though, that you find the fluoro in your wife''s F color to be a positive...

Thanks!

Alice

Any other good pictures out there illustrating flouro in a stone -- particularly D, E or F?

Gary, care to share? I''ve often wondered what you diamond guys buy your wives and why.

I''ll understand if you don''t wanna.

Here''s pics of the e-ring that I bought my fiance:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ring-pics.64078/

It''s strong-blue and H color. Looks amazing in sunlight with a SLIGHT blue tint. I wouldn''t buy another diamond that DIDN''T have it, we both like it that much.
