Hello!

My jeweler "hand picked" out a stone for me, which I like and am strongly considering buying.

Here is what the EGL certificate says:

6.13 x 5.94 x 4.82 MM

It is 1.54 cts. Anything stick out as noteworthy?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Take care!

Also, the stone is shaped "radiant" as per the certificate.

Mmmmh, it seems to be pretty deep. Do you have table, crown, pavilion and girdle informations? These should be listed on the EGL cert. One more thing... What are the color and clarity ratings?

If you're looking for rectagular radiants, go check out Whiteflash.com.

You may want to inspect the existing guidelines for 'cut quality' parameters on radiant cuts. It does remain entirely up to you how to use these numbers, but the recognition of these standards for a 'fine' cut do influence prices: so you may want to evaluate claims that one stone or another deserves a premium for cut quality based on these - regardless of your personal appreciation of the stones.

The two standards (higly correlated) I know of are the AGA Charts (rules of usage on the page and explanation of how cut quality is defined HERE) and the standard of the branded Radiant cut (HERE).

Also, you can find on THIS PAGE a couple of radiants which have been chosen for their light return and tested accordingly. You may want to compare their optics with what a princess cut can do in this department... if you want to go this road. For a fancy cut, there is no receipe to tell optical properties from numbers alone (such as the standards above) - so testing the stones remains the most accurate. Of course, seeing dozens of stones to build experience in choosing them is the best - but this takes a second job

The above mentioned optical analysis and cut standards offer a shortcut to applying this kind of experinece without going the long way... Just my opinion, of course.

Thank you...

I have been pouring over these (and others that I was referred to yesterday) sites for a couple of hours now. I don't have the entire certificate on me; I will pick up a copy tomorrow. If possible, will y'all stop back and tell me what you think when I get more detailed measurements? Do you make your evaluations completely based on this site's charts (http://www.gemappraisers.com/chartFrameset.htm) ?

The stone is I in color, VS2, and 1.54 with the aforementioned basic measurements. They are offering it to me for $5500, which seems good as compared to other radiants I have seen advertised. I am debating whether or not I is too yellow, but honestly, to me you can't see the yellow unless you are comparing a E or F right next to the I. It looks white by itself, but maybe I am falling into a common trap...

Thanks again and take care!

I would think that the AGA charts rank high as a source of wisedom around here, but you may find quite a few Pricescope buyers who ended up erring from this strict standard. There is allot of room for interpretation on each and every stone, and the AGA charts do not account for the optics of the stones - so there is room for debate aside the respective numbers.

So? Can't wait to hear about the next radiant, of course

The Cut Charts are guidelines to follow in the screening process. Fancy cuts, like yours, also need to be evaluated for light leakage, and viewed in person.
