i bought my wife a whiteflash design w prong half round platinum engagement ring and she just noticed it looks bent (out of round) and appears to be scratching easy (normal wear) this ring is less than two weeks old what should i do? here is a link to some pics camera not to good but you can see the ring is out of shape.http://eshare.hpphoto.com/start.asp?JobID={265CBDC1-2088-4E6B-8941-6BBB383FB61A}&IDKey=29168 (copy and paste in browser)

Call whiteflash and talk to them on monday.

iam looking to get some member oppinions i will call them monday though thanks

To me it looks like it got mashed by a hammer or caught in a car door.
I was being polite and not saying so because I could be wrong and the photos arent that clear.

well thanks for being nice it wasnt bashed or smashed nor does it look that bad when its off it looks out of round thats all. i know the pics are bad but thats the best i can do if some one that knows platinum can reply i sure woud appreciate it !!

I couldn't tell anything from the second pic. The third pic could confirm what I may be seeing in the first.

First pic - was this ring sized by any chance? It doesn't appear "out of round". It appears, from the photo, that the left part of the shank may be thinner than the right part - thus, giving the appearance of out of round.

Don't know. Can't really say from the photos.

Hello! If you aren't happy and it's only 2 weeks old, bring it back and get something else or get your money back and start over, if need be. You don't want to be unhappy in the future with your diamond, right? If it's already scratching under normal use after only 2 weeks, how will it be after 2 months???

What is your return/exchange policy??? What did your jeweler say?

well thanks for the replys, iam gonna try to take some clear pics and post here. yes the ring was bought online from whiteflash.com and sized at 7 1/2 by them .i did read that plattinum does scratch easy and can be buffed out though.

The reason why I asked if it was sized is that this look often comes from the sizing. What size was it originally? What was it size too?

Platinum scratches. It is not shiny like gold. It develops a patina. Personally, I like the rich dull glow that platinum takes on. If you want the ring to be shinny all the time, then platinum may not be for you.

well i dont know i ordered the diamond and wf design platinum ring from whiteflash.com and told them my wife size. i thought they custom the ring when i ordered.iam gonna call them monday though

The ring definitely looks warped to me too. Please let us know what WF says. I'd be interested to know.

Thanks.

I have seen many times rings which have looked like this due to sizing. I would be interested to know what the jewellers opinions are as to why the rings look twisted like this? Should the ring have been made custom and can all rings be made custom to fit? Also, would it be true as mentioned by a poster here that the ring could be thinner on one side of the shank?

Platinum does scratch. It's like a stainless steel sink. The first few scratches lok awful because they stand out. After that it all just blends into a nice finish that you don't look at and say "oh no! look at those scratches".

I couldn't tell about theout of round form the pics. (my net connection is sloooowww today, so I gave up, sorry.0

ok i will, hope to hear from others on what they think . thank you

I couldn't really tell from the pictures, but it did look a little asymmetrical. Definitely get in touch with White Flash tomorrow. You might want to have a local jeweler whom you trust (not one who would say, "Oh yes, that's terrible, why don't you return it and let me do your new ring") look at it before you part with it to have White Flash look at it. I'm sure they'll work with you to figure out if there is a problem. Don't panic yet.

As spygirl, oops, I mean F&I and Lop have said, platinum does scratch easily. But to platinum lovers, that is what adds to its beauty as well. We live with it. A trip to the jeweler for any reason could get you a nice polish but that would only last temporarily. That wear is a separate issue from the out of round look that you are talking about. The pics are difficult to make out, I know you probably tried your best, but it is indeed hard to tell just from those pictures. From what I am able to see though, I do agree that it does look out of round. Please let us know what the vendor says. Good luck, I hope this gets resolved to your satisfaction.

Hi David:

I have just read this post after a very long weekend at the Bridal Show at the George Brown Convention Center in Houston. Every Whiteflash design ring is made to order - we do not stock them and then resize them.

I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this and we will expect your call tomorrow.

A good vendor will do right by their customer. Looks like you are already on your way and in good hands with Lesley.

As seen above regarding the original posters query, this in a different problem than re-sizing but I have seen many times rings which have looked mis-shapen due to sizing. I would be interested to know what the jewellers opinions are as to why the rings look twisted in that case? Should the ring have been made custom and can all rings be made custom to fit? Also, would it be true as mentioned by a poster that a ring which has be re-sized could be thinner on one side of the shank?

Really what is it that makes the ring look twisted after re-sizing, can the gold not be reshaped to look like the original ring?

I am glad that you are going to get your ring problem resolved.

It did not look as bad in the last two photos you posted though as it seemed to in the first photos.

I would like to know however why some rings do look mangled when they have been
re-sized.

I was wondering if the square underbasket on your ring could have something to do with how your ring looks, i.e. maybe they could not curve it enough to the shape of your fiancee's finger without affecting the square style of the basket. (Just a consumer's guess!)

(bump)

Glad to hear you are on your way to getting this resolved.
