Hi All- Can someone please help with H&A images for 2 diamonds? Both are very similar in details but differ in carat size. Based on your review, I would buy one or the other.

My response depends on how much these are, and whether you have access to IS/ASET images.

2.4 is 31K
2.6 is 35K

I do not have the ASET images yet.

Are these from vendors recommended here? And do you need VVS clarity for cultural reasons?

For so much money, I would want to make sure I went with the best possible vendor with an outstanding bench and great upgrade policy.

It's within the 'yes' range. Gia stones need to be run through the HCA to make sure angles work together. Anything under 2 is worth considering (but a score of 1 vs 1.9 is all the same, nothing is 'better'). Scores over 2 = reject. But you still want advanced images to make sure there is no light leakage.

For 35k, you could get one of these https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4022268.htm?source=pricescope

Which are super ideal stones (best of the best cut), from a great vendor with a $1 upgrade policy.

I would go with one of the WF stones. The stones you posted have notched hearts in the H&A images, so they are not ideally cut, and while they are probably beautiful you can have an ideal cut, same size or larger, better sparkle, better upgrade policy, similar price. If you are already decided upon these 2 I would buy the bigger one.

I really like Whiteflash site as I am able to get ASET/Idealscope images along with an image/video and certification for each diamond. My concern is AGS certification vs. GIA certification. Also, can you negotiate the price with them?

Thanks,
Pankil

Ags is better than gia for cut, so I wouldn't worry about that. Prices aren't really negotiable, they are very fair as they are. But you can get a small discount if you pay by wire.

Thank you - for my understanding, can you review the idealscope image above and let me know if that's good or bad?

It's not great. Compare it to the WF ones, which are excellent. You can see light leakage on yours.

Not good enough for most PSers. :silenced: If I was spending this kind of money it would definitely be on a super ideal cut.

Ditto what Dancing Fire said.

No way I'd pay over 30K and not get a super ideal.

This looks great, IMO. Price, as well... you are talking about IF... I’m assuming that is important to you? Personally, I would go down in clarity and up in color, as you will see the difference in color but you will not for clarity but the IF may just be something of priority for you and that’s cool, we all have “our thing”.

It looks good, but I probably wouldn't want to pay extra for IF clarity since it's invisible to the naked eye. But if that's important to you culturally then there's definitely nothing wrong with this one.

In some cultures, diamonds being high clarity is expected, and very valued. Especially for a engagement ring, it represents the stone being "the best" and "pure". Obviously that's not really true in the US, but there are cultures in which it's very important. So I try to be aware of that when I see people asking about VVVS/IF stones. But if it's not a cultural thing (and the person just thought that high clarity = good diamond), then it'd important to educate them about the importance of cut, and how almost all VS2 are eye clean, and finding an SI1 that's eye clean is very doable, etc.

Thanks @lovedogs!... and sometimes people just want “the best” because we do lol!!! I do recall reading somewhere a number of years ago that the Japanese, in particular, wanted D+F... and usually in the 1 ct. range. Also, I know the French have always been known to want something of high quality/value over size... or like owning 1 really fine coat they will wear for many years vs getting a “lesser” product every couple seasons.

I have learned from recent experience that Indians will go for G/H and VVS1/VVS2. Anything lower than that is big no culturally.
