Hi guys, first time poster on here. However you guys did help my brother pick his ring two years ago and I am hoping to receive some help with my purchase too! I am looking to make my purchase from James Allen as my brother had an excellent experience there. After talking with my girlfriend I have determined she would like a pear shaped diamond in a halo setting. The setting was easy to figure out and can be found here: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...iamond-engagement-ring-pear-center-item-17441

The diamond is where I seem to be having trouble. I would like to spend somewhere from $3,000-$5,300 on the diamond. The issue is I am not highly educated but have done some reading. Personally I would like the diamond to be the "clearest" or "whitest" as possible. I was thinking anywhere form .9 to 1.1 carat, possibly VVS2 or better, and G or higher color? There seems to be so many diamonds and my eye is very untrained. Anyone mind throwing out some good candidates? Thanks in advance!

I am going to post a few links here. VVS2 seems like a waste to me unless clarity is a cultural issue. Eye clean for clarity and you are good. Why pay for something you cannot see?
Have you taken her to look at stones, is she color sensitive?
Does she like fat pears or skinny pears?

Thank you for the reply! I will look through all of these. Clarity is not an issue and she is not picky on color nor pear type.

Its hard to find nice pears with good light return. Cokitty posted some 6 main stones for you to investigate. As she pointed out, pay attention to the
LxW and not just the carat weight. Most stones will have fairly "mushy" pointed ends. The key is to find one that has good light return that as
the stone rotates lights up additional facets down towards the pointed end.

I'll post some pictures that will have with what to look for and what to stay away from...
By "mushy" points...this is what I mean. The top of this stone is also very mushy.

You want to stay away from pears with shoulders (unless you like them?) Shoulders circled in red.

You want to minimize the mushy ends (red area) and have the nice facets stretch as far down towards the pointed end as possible (blue lines).

And of course stay away from black bow-ties...

I'll post some 7 main stones that are worth taking a look at. I didnt find one that I thought "oh this is it"...really depends on your priorities.

I dont usually drop down to "I" color in pears. Go here to see some "I" colored (and lower) pears in halos to determine if you are ok with the
color difference. *if its a really well cut pear with very little mush, it could be ok (this all depends on your color sensitivity and how well the pear
is reflecting light.)

Si1 stones that could be eye-clean (would need to ask the vendor)

Between these and Cokitty's post, you should have plenty of stones to help you figure out what you like...let us know what you think.

Of those the .92 e looks the best to me.

Out of those three I would go with the 1.08 I/VS2.

the .92 E is REALLY gorgeous, i love the shape and the color + clarity is just a great bonus. The H VS1 would be my second choice and the I VS1 last. Simply because i prefer a slightly chubbier stone and the I is quite long.

The .92 E has been purchased! I will post photos when I receive it!
