Hi all,
I can’t believe that my son and his girlfriend took me to the mall to look for diamond shapes. Not going to buy from a mall store... Anyway, long story short, there was a Blue Nile small store set up there. We looked and she likes the oval shape.
Budget is probably around 4-5 thousand for stone. Looking for a carat. She liked Blue Niles engagement ring with the 4 sidestones on each side. Where should we seriously look. I have a jewelry store in town that sells very nice stones.

It’s hard buying sight unseen. Help!

If you are looking for ovals, you have to look at the August Vintage Opulence ovals from Rhino!
Omg!!!!! You are right. They are amazing! How do compare to the traditional ovals?

Does anyone have an opulence oval? Would love to hear from you!

When I get my oval, it will be from August Vintage. They are just too beautiful and reduce the fear of bow ties, smooshed ends, and poor cuts.

Wow, a lot to look at!!!!! First day back at work, and I'm already on this site.
I'm going to look at all of the data out there, the the ovals from Jon are to die for on screen.
Question, as far as settings, she picked out a setting from blue nile, with 4 round sidestones on each side. I don't think the stones were graded as well as on Jons site, but were much more expensive with alot more diamonds. I guess we should get a stone first, and ten my son could save up for a setting????
Got to give a talk....... will be back!

Here's a pretty G SI2 from August Vintage: https://www.augustvintageinc.net/co...cts/1-004ct-g-si2-august-vintage-oval-1328681

There are several feathers on the sides of the stone, but m y guess is that it's not visible to the naked eye, won't be noticeable when set, and that it will be beautiful stone.

Yes, I saw that stone. What is that smudge on the side? also, it is a cut 2, which I assume is not ideal. I have no idea...does that matter with these stones?

According to the cert, that smudge is some sort of crystal. Remember that when you see these magnified images, they make inclusions look enormous. I have an H S12 stone ACA from Whiteflash that has a few clouds that are visible under 10x magnification, but that stone is a firecracker - I've even had a jeweler cross the room at a concert to ask me about it!

I have a good friend who bought one of Jonathan's stones and he was great to deal with - he made videos of the stone for her, shared as many images as he could to help her make a decision. If you're interested in the above oval but worried about any inclusions, I'd reach out to him. He has a great reputation as informative, fair, and easy to deal with. Good luck!
