Hello!

I'm looking to buy a diamond online for an engagement ring and would love your help in finding one. First purchase of this sort for me so a bit nervous but still excited! Specifically looking for:
- hearts and arrows round brilliant
- 0.60-0.65 ct - happy to consider 0.58-0.68 depending on the overall quality of the stone
- D-F colour
- clarity VS1 and above
- nil fluorescence
- budget of $4000ish

I have been looking through JA, WF and BGD and if no luck online will consider contacting GoG or using a diamond sourcing service at the place I end up having the diamond set.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Bubble and welcome!

I am sure we can help you find something superb online! I take it you prefer to stick to D-F colour and VS1 or above for clarity? If you have been reading you are probably aware that you can get a larger diamond for your money with lowering those if you wish, but it's a personal choice and some prefer higher colour and clarity, nothing wrong with that if you do!

I will take a look for you to see what is available, I am sure we can come up with some excellent stones, is the budget to include the setting also?

Thank you Lorelai!

The budget is for the stone only. Yes, realise the budget would allow a larger stone, but the ring finger is very small (guestimating <US size 3), so thought we could use the rest of the stone budget to maximise the other Cs? Re clarity, I must admit, there is a mind clean element there.

Wow you are quick!

Thank you!

This is a "60/60" stone so I understand they can look a little different to other stones with more Towolsky (spelling?) cut proportions, but it has an HCA score of 1.7 so might be nice, you'd have to either request pictures / an IdealScope / an ASETscope from Yoni, or see if another vendor can use the GIA certificate number to identify the stone and call it in for you :)

0.61ct D VVS1

This one is a 0.61ct F VVS2 for quite a lot less than your budget ($2410) but has an HCA of 1.6 so should be pretty good :)

That's about it for decent looking ones that I could find in the search engine at the top of the page:

I think this one is definitely worth a look, though, one of the best cuts available and hits your criteria in colour/clarity, with only a 0.01ct difference to your minimum stated size:

Only possible negative is strong fluorescence.

You are most welcome! No problem with the clarity, it's a preference and some do prefer VS/VVS, no problem at all! That size range will be beautiful on your GF's finger, check out the two from Brian Gavin I posted also and Oosh's selections!

If you are willing to go to G, this is a nice stone (HCA 1.0). G will be pretty much indistinguishable from F, and this one even has faint fluorescence to boot. (you could have JA make sure it's eye clean -- keep in mind that it's magnified like crazy)

A big thank you for your efforts, much appreciated, will follow up!

It might now be worth your while shopping around and flicking Victor the link or links to one of the stones you like and see if he can match prices with these, particularly if you are purchasing the setting from him as well. Otherwise just get the vendor you decide to go with for the stone to ship it to him.

You need to ask whoever you purchase the ring from to fill in the appropriate trade agreement forms when they mail you the completed ring. This will save you 5% in duty (the total is 15%) so you end up paying 10% roughly in GST + processing fees only when you import the ring into Australia, instead of the full 15%. Most vendors know what to do, but always mention it to them.

Thank you for that Aus related info, will chase when we get to that point and will update when we have a diamond. It's so exciting!

Hi OP :wavey: ,

I noticed you mentioned a few times in your 2 threads that you are looking for a diamond 0.6-0.65 carat because your SO's finger is small. While this is a very personal decision, I'd just like to put in my personal opinion from my own experience.

My ring size is US 3.75, which is 14.68mm in diameter. My diamond is a 1.5 carat heart and arrow, 7.35mm in diameter. I think it looks right on my finger, definitely not too big. You mentioned your SO's size is less than 3. Lets say it is 2.75, which is 13.87mm in diameter, only roughly 0.8mm smaller than mine. You can totally go with a 6-6.5mm stone which is about 1-1.1 carat. Bear in mind her finger might become larger after having kids. When I was choosing my diamond, I decided to go with 1.5 not 1.7 because of fear it will look too big and I'd be too conscious. Though I am happy with my choice, if doing it again, I'd get the 1.7. That said it is of course a personal thing and I only speak from my personal experience. Do go with a vendor that has excellent upgrade policy in case you want something bigger in the future. I hope you will find a beautiful diamond you two will love!
