Help with cushion setting

So I ordered just a simple setting that I thought I had seen on other cushions. I was told by Brian Gavin Diamonds that the setting was not for square diamonds.

Here is what the said. "Hi Joel,

That setting is primarily made for round stones - you can try and have your stone set into it but there are no guarantees. In addition, if the setting is worked on at all it is a final sale. You may want to reconsider?"

Should I cancel the order? I know that I am going to get her a diamond that is cushion cut and I am 99% sure its the 1.18 K VVS2. Am I doing something wrong by ordering that setting? Or maybe I should ask where can I find a simple four prong setting for a cushion cut.

I wonder if BGD is saying that setting is unsuitable because your stone is more of a rectangular cushion than a square cushion?

I've never used BGD but understand they are knowledgeable and reputable - I would just ask them which BGD simple solitaire settings they would recommend for your particular stone and go from there.

Is the knife edge style painful or uncomfortable to wear?

I did ask what they would recommend and their response was this "I spoke with Brian and he said that a skilled setter could use this setting, you just have to make sure that he/she can do so before starting."

It wouldn't be my personal choice, but some women like it. I think the comfort fit is the safer choice in terms of, well, comfort, if you don't know what she'd prefer.

Yeah I just thought I would save a couple hundred bucks by getting it at Brian Gavin.

I understand- I didn't notice the $200 difference in price until now, though one is 14k gold and the other is 18k gold. How much does BGD charge for setting an outside stone?

Some people have had to have the knife edge shaved down so its more comfortable. Others have had no problems.
I'd say stick with JA like EB said, plus having to pay for postage to send from place to place, buying insurance incase
something happens to the stone while BGD sets it, etc. I personally dont think the other cost a long with the added
headach is worth saving $200 (and I can be pretty cheap!)

I was going to have it set at my local jeweler. I am getting a price from them on a custom head for the diamond.

If I have the diamond and ring sent to me I dont pay for shipping and Ins all I would have to pay for would be just to have it set.

Ditto

BGD said the price of the ring with the custom head would be the same. Good deal?

JA it is. I just called my jeweler and I would have to have insurance on it and pay out $95 so I will just go with the JA comfort ring.

Good choice! It'll be so much easier this way. Please post pics when you get it!

Good idea!
Did you post a picture of the ASET?

ASET is not coming my way until wed. I will post as soon as I get it.

keep in mind that sometimes diamonds are not insured during the setting process if they aren't already set and being moved to another setting. Research that for your situation.
