Hello,

Long time lurker, but first time poster.

I''m sure this happens reasonably often, I''m actually already married to my lady (Las Vegas style) - but now are looking to do it again, this time with all the pomp/celebration and to have the respective families included.

I''ve been looking at a number of different jewelers (here in Australia) - and finally decided to walk in to a Tiffany store - and we immediately were drawn to the traditional classic setting. Unfortunately though, the price is just too steep.

Being an absolute beginner in the diamond space, I''ve overloaded myself with various tutorials and articles for the last few weeks. I now have a basic appreciation of the various factors that comprise a good diamond.

I''ve been looking at the whiteflash tiffany clone setting - along with hopefully an ACA diamond around the 0.8 to 0.9 of a caret.

These are the 2 diamonds I''m currently comparing which seem to have excellent statistics

The AGS reports are still to come in .. but the .93 apparently has just the one inclusion.

Without the reports, is anyone still able to help me give there bias/opinion on the above diamonds.

many thanks

Matt.

to be honest - both stones are like 2 hairs plucked from your head - they are almost exactly alike, but with tiny, tiny differances

I think both will be beautiful - provided they pass Whiteflash''s criterior for eye cleanliness (ie the incusions can''t be seen) which is a question.

both are great options, and have passed the Great Eye of Brian to be ACA branded stones

and without wishing to do whiteflash out of a sale - look up Garry Holloway''s shop, he''s Aus based like yourself. (i forget the link off hand)

Lord is correct, you can''t go wrong with either one. At VS1, you''ll be lucky to see anything with a loupe. You could easily go to VS2, and still be eyeclean in all but the rarest cases, just a suggestion. They''re great stones.

And here is Gary''s place.

Maybe its just me, but if my budget is around $6k for a stone, I want it to be at least 1 ct. Sacrifice super ideal cut for ideal cut and drop a little bit in clarity. An eye clean SI1 looks just like an eye clean VS2. Your fiancé''s friends will notice two things: Size and color.

My advice. Go this route:

Thankyou for all the responses.

With regards to the stone size I''m looking at, my wife''s finger is 4.5 USA (or I to I 1/2 Brittish). She has skinny long fingers.

We looked at some 1 carat + diamonds, and to me, they looked just too big on her.

The 0.8 to 0.9 carat mark seemed not too small .. and not overpowering either in that particular setting (6 prong).

I don''t want to waste money - but at the same time, I want to get a good quality stone (that her friends are going to notice from all the light being reflected :) ). I guess I was pushing all my money in to the CUT factor - so that the diamond would sparkle as good as, if not better, then some of its bigger 1+ caret cousins.

With regards to the purchase of the ring in the US, I still have some money hidden away in a bank account there which I was planning to leverage. My wife is an accountant, so she knows every little transaction that is occurring - but not this money. So hopefully I can suprise her!

thanks for all your help.

cheers

Matt.

Matt, just wanted to clarify something here. You have indeed gone for a great cut, and certainly have it in the two stones you have there. But lowering the clarity, would not be lowering the quality. There are women on here with totally eyeclean SI2's, yep. But, they are excellently cut, and still sparkle like the dickens.

Just a little FYI.

Those are outstanding stones if they meet your size and budget requirements. As Ellen said, most of us cannot see VS1 inclusions with a loupe, and definitely not with our eyes!!! So you have chosen high color and clarity with an outstanding cut. So I''d say they are perfect if .9 is your size target! That size is not easy to find, which makes them desirable for that reason also.
