Help with CAD - prongs too thin?

Hi. As you know, I hate the enormous prongs on my ring. I like the warmth of my L diamond, but I don't like the contrast with the whiter melee. For a while I thought about resetting in yellow gold, but a lot of you advised me that it would add too much yellow to my diamond, and I came to agree with that. My diamond is a chameleon, taking on the colors of the walls that surround it, which is fun, and I think I will enjoy the neutralness of platinum when there aren't other, whiter diamonds contrasting with the main diamond. I love Missy's ring, but I was wanting hearts, and then I saw this thread (hippi_pixi's ring):

I LOVE that setting. I like how Missy's shank goes to a taper, rather than a flat edge at the top. Below is the CAD I'm working with now. It's the second rendering. I did ask them to add the decorative line on both sides of the shank, but they didn't do it. Not sure why. I also asked them to add an indented bit under the hearts, and they didn't do that, either. They did modify the top taper of the shank, though.

Anyway, the basket is pretty low and the prongs are tiny. I am wondering if you think they'll be strong enough for my 5.01ct diamond. Whaddaya think?

It wouldnt hurt to ask Hippi how her's is holding up considering her prongs are small also on her 3ct+ ?

Platinum is also much more durable than gold so as long as you have insurance and are confident in your jewelers work I'm voting for the small prongs. :appl:

Disagree.
Platinum is more malleable than gold - so prongs bend, rather than snap. Which is one aspect of durability.
However, platinum is more malleable than gold - so engraving, milgraining, etc. will not last as long, which is another aspect of durability.
Platinum is more malleable than gold so it's more prone to warping - going out of round & out of plane with time, which is yet another aspect of durability.

I love the design, but I have to be honest - I don't love the teeny tiny prongs: I prefer prongs with a *bit* more heft. To my eyes what makes claw prong-ends beautiful isn't necessarily size - it's how precisely they're pointed, and that's up to the skill of the bench. I would really like to see more of a difference in wire diameter between the prongs and the hearts.

Please excuse my misuse of the word "durable" that's what I'm used to seeing when researching.

My statement was meant to express the fact that platinum is stronger in the sense that it will not break as easily. Also gold warps from perfectly round to the shape of the wearers hand over time as well.

BUT

Tourmaline has expressed not being fond of big prongs, which is the issue.

Thanks to both of you. I am concerned about just how thin the prongs are, especially since the basket is so low. I did ask hippi_pixi in her thread, but she hasn't responded. I don't like enormous prongs, but I don't need them to be THIS tiny.
