Help with black pearl purchase

I am new to purchasing pearls. My daughter asked for a single black pearl pendent for Christmas. I looked at Mikimoto as that is the only place I know of for pearls. What I liked was very pricey and I am sure there are other options, I just do not know where to look.
Where would you suggest looking online for a black pearl pendent and maybe matching earrings?

Where can I read a brief information about pearls the different types etc.?

JS, I posted this in response to another quest for black pearls... This is a seller on Etsy that has beautiful tahitian pearls. I have seen her work and it is wonderful.

Maunakeamoonlight or Mauna Kea Moonlight (I don''t remember how Etsy search has it)
Sheryl does beautiful work and she has a "build your own" necklace that can be strung on a single strand of chain. Her prices for a round Tahitian start at $75.00. She also has some preset pendants that I''m sure your daughter would like.

She buys her amazing Tahitians directly from Josh at Kamoka Farms. If you google Kamoka Farms, you will learn a lot about Josh''s pearls.
She is definitely worth looking at!

Gosh, there are so many choices. I really like the look of the dyed black pearls ( freshwater and akoya) myself. Of course a tahitian pearl would be nice and if you wanted to be really different a sea of cortez pearl would be pretty cool.

A few years back, I purchased a beautiful black Tahitian pearl pendant for my mom from www.americanpearl.com. They were very helpful. The setting I liked best is normally sold with a freshwater pearl, but they swapped the pearl for me.
