Hi all,

My girlfriend of 3 years and I have decided to take the plunge recently and we''ve made the rounds at the stores in person. I''ve decided to purchase the ring online, but I don''t know of many sites beyond bluenile, diamond.com, antiqueengagementrings.com, etc.

I know that 4000-5000 is my budget and I''d like a diamond between .75-1.0 carat. She likes round and oval cut, but is not a fan of princess cut. She also rarely wears jewelry, especially rings, and has relatively small fingers, so I''m looking for a band that is thinner with a higher set diamond that will be comfortable for her to wear. I don''t want a solitaire or a three-stone setting, but something more like what I''ve seen called a micro-pave setting? I''ve also decided that I don''t want any colored stones. She says that she likes antique-style rings, but I currently have a hard time distinguishing between different styles of antique rings.

I am very much a fan of this ring, but it is out of stock:

I''m hoping that someone has seen something similar or has suggestions based on my post. If you have any more questions

, just ask! Thanks everyone.

You want to find the diamond by using this tool and only choose excellent cut.

Maybe someone will chime in w/antique ring suggestions.

Thanks skippy,

That will certainly add to my resources for pricing loose diamonds.

Thanks jayrenay9,

I especially like the 2nd one that you posted, but the last may fit my budget better. If I were to get something similar to the 3rd, would you have any suggestions if I were interested in engraving the sides?

I think you could swing the second one with your budget. Here are a couple of examples...

Or something from the Expert Selection diamonds at WF...

I''m not a huge fan of engraving, so I''m probably not the one to ask -- sorry!

This ring is a beauty and has a matching wedding band:

For the stone, I''d start with rounds as opposed to ovals, since it''s easier to find well-cut RBs in your price range than ovals. The setting is $895 in 14k WG, so that leaves you about $4000 tops to work with. If you want a carat, you''re looking at something like J/SI1 for a well-cut stone. Let''s see what I can find...

On the larger side:
1.02 J SI1
1.07 J SI2
1.0 J SI1 (needs pics though)
1.0 J SI1
0.9 J SI1 - 0.9 is actually a really good deal, since it doesn''t carry the 1ct premium but looks just as big.

Smaller but higher color (there are TONS in this range, but this is just a small selection)...and remember, ACAs have a 5% discount if you wire the cash:
0.8 E VS2
0.765 G VS2
0.806 G VS2 ACA
0.838 F VS2 ACA - for some reason I really like this one!
0.765 E SI1 ACA
0.782 G VS2 ACA

You can buy one of the Knox settings and a diamond from WF, but I think there''s a significant advantage to buying both the stone and setting at the same place, and the Legato setting is really pretty and popular around here.
