Hello everyone, first time posting here, but I''ve been reading for a while... I have some stone measurements here, and I was wondering if everyone could help. Here are the stone''s dimensions, tell me if it sounds like a nice stone based on these measurements...thanks in advance for any help...

Shape: Round, Brilliant
Size: 1.02
Color: F
Clarity: VS-1
MM: 6.50 X 6.55 X 3.99
Depth: 61.1
Table: 56.6
Flour: none

Here''s some of the stuff from the Sarin report:

Diam: 6.50 X 6.55 X 3.99
Depth: 61.1%
Table: 3.69mm 56.6%
Crown: 34.2, 14.7%
pavil: 41.0, 43.2%
culet: 0.5%, V. small
girdle: .9 thin - 1.6medium, 1.2%

Looks like a great performer with those figures and with that color/clarity, it should be a knockout.

It sounds like a beautiful diamond to me. It gets a 1.5 TIC, EX, EX, VG, VG on the HCA which is very good. (See the cut adviser link on the home page).

You didn't list the price, so no feedback on whether it is a fair price or not. However, there are lots of threads here that will tell you that you can save some money by dropping down in clarity and size. G seems to be a color sweet spot, but color preferences are very subjective. Some people comfortably go to H or I and it still faces up white if it is well cut. You can go as low as SI1 in clarity with pretty good confidence that it is eye-clean (ask the vendor), and sometimes even to SI2 or I1. As you go up the clarity scale, you are paying for something that can't be seen without magnification. VS2 or SI1 is still plenty safe -- the others need to be evaluated, but there can be some good deals.

Ask more questions and post more info if you want more advice! Good Luck!

Thanks guys, anyone else have any opinions on this? As far as price, I'm paying just shy of $4800 for this stone... thanks everyone...

4800!! Is it F or J?
Great numbers, btw.

it is F, The price is friend of a friend price, that's why I think I'm getting a good deal... A close friend of mine's uncle is a broker. I trust my friend, but don't know his uncle that well so I just wanted to make sure this stone had good measurements for the money I'm paying. thanks again everyone... any further input is greatly appreciated.

The price is very very low... An excellent bargain! Does it have a GIA report?

That's what I was a little nervous about... There is no GIA report. He gets buttloads of diamonds straight from the cutters before they get officially graded, so he says that's why he can sell it to me for so low. Because no one has had to pay for the grading report. But he said he'll have it graded for me, by EGL NY. He said that GIA reports, while usually accurate, are way overpriced, and since he gets to look at the stones from the cutter before he has to pay for it, he can pretty much determine the stone's quality without having to pay that much for GIA...

Flash....the numbers from the Sarin look very nice.

Regarding the lack of a grading report....he does make a point that an EGL grading costs less, but it's also worth less on resale. If you do go with this, just have an independent appraiser look at the stone to ensure that it really is worth what you're paying for it (which I suspect it would be).

The other option, seeing as you have personal connections here.....you may want to offer to pay the difference between the cost of the EGL grading report and a GIA report so you can get the GIA report. It makes the diamond much more saleable....and also more accurately replaceable. If you end up having to replace this diamond through insurance, and it's ranked F, VS-1 by EGL....it's possible that another F, VS1 diamond by EGL won't be as "true".

Go with what you think it best....just a few things to think about.

Thanks everyone... I am definitely having my jeweler look at it too. He's really good, just couldn't touch my buddy's uncle in terms of price. I have a money back guarantee with him too, so I'm not too concerned, he says if I hate it, or if it's not as promised, he'll find me another one or refund my money...
