Hi, I have been reading some posts and educating myself on sapphires and learning stuff everyday, but I'm no expert so some advice would greatly appreciated. Looking to purchase a sapphire to mount to a ring that I am having made out of palladium. I am based in the U.K and want it certified' untreated and 0.5-1ct in weight. I can only find stones abroad usually USA and India that have stones in my price range, have to concider vat on import too. Have look at the nsc and they have one stone that looks cut well, what do you people think?

I have also seen some Nigerian stones on Starruby that look good and certified, also one on gemfix but they won't ship over $650. If anyone could point me in the direction of anything else it would be great.

Thanks

What is your budget and color preference? I like the pear that chroman linked to for the price.

That last one is heated - is that an option? It sounded like you were only interested in unheated.

Would it be worth considering heated at that price? Im seriously thinking about the pear shaped one that was posted earlier.

That probably depends on how important the treatment is to you, and that's a personal thing.

I suspect we can find a few interesting smaller, heated stones in the <$1k usd range, depending on what sort of blue appeals.

Yeah I would concider a GIA or AGL certified heat only stone, especially if I can get a great coloured stone for my bucks. Thanks for help so peoples

I'm not sure if at the budget many people will offer an AGL report for 'heat-only'?

GIA lab memo costs more than an AGL brief.

So would I be looking for just a in house report?

I would go with an AGL brief. An in-house report is even worse due to a strong conflict of interest.

Are there any sellers with reputable in house reports? Or any sellers you would recommend?

I can't say I like the colors you have choose, but I can say have only made the best experiences with WildFish and if you like these colors, I would trust their lab reports without AGL or GIA especially since pure no-heat is easier to determine than heat-only, (right?).

There have been cases where a stone is deemed heated by a smaller lab and unheated by the larger lab.

Simply put, no matter how reputable the vendor is, I will still use an independent lab report to verify that the sapphire is unheated.

Yeah I have looked at the list of vendors, the more stones I view the harder it becomes. So much choice, variation and factors. Its been quite interesting though, but want to buy something right even though my budget is quite small.

I believe you've taken a look at this list?

I would choose the Umba sapphire. It is cleaner and the color shifts are both very desirable colors versus the typical blue-grey to green-grey of Montana sapphires. But if you prefer the other sapphire than it is your opinion that counts.

Here's a few more to throw out:
Lighter blue, larger than your target, decent looking cut:

Like the color, hate the window; that would be a dealbreaker for me, but I figured I'd throw it out:

I like the color and cut, but its got some big inclusions. Not sure how that would play with your design..

Ok, this is pair, but oh the color! Any chance you're planning a 3 stone? ;-)

The first one looks good chroman, I have made an enquiry about the umba. Although not that big, its the best looking i've seen that I can afford. Thanks again.
