Hi,

I am looking to buy a round diamond to set in a petite engagement ring. My budget is about 4500 and I live in Canada, so my pricing is a little bit higher. I have been scrolling through all sorts of online sources over the past few weeks and am very close to making a decision. One of my choices is a BN

http://www.bluenile.com/ca/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-i-colour-vs1-clarity_LD04381048?keyword_search_value=LD04381048

0.90, VS1, Excellent cut, I colour. It does very well under HCA: 0.7. (61.2% depth, 55% table, 33° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle
)

My other option is:

0.94, VVS1, Triple Ex GIA, H colour, however it scores a 1.7 under HCA. GIA: 216514749

Would you say that the Crown angle is a little steep for that pavilion? ( 61.6% depth, 58% table, 35° crown angle, 40.8° pavilion angle)

Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

I just bought a diamond with the exact same proportions as diamond 2 and it looked perfect under the ideal scope and ASET and it performs beautifully under all types of lighting.

Where in Canada do you live? Why are these your only two options? I am in Canada as well and I know two local vendors who have prices in line with the internet, and if you buy local you get to see the diamond before you buy with your eyes and under scopes.

Thanks for the feedback, that's really promising.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta. Locally, pricing seems significantly higher than what I have been able to find online. These are not my only options however they have been some of the most promising that I have found.

I do not know if the VVS2***(not VVS1) of diamond 2 is worth it and I would have been perfectly happy with a VS1, however, I can't seem to find anything comparable. The VVS1 seems like the cherry on top.

Is the 58% table a major negative? I understand that it will reduce scintillations but instead will make the diamond look larger which could be a reasonable compromise. Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Personally I think paying for a VVS clarity is a waste of money.

I don't know any vendors in Alberta, but I can connect you with an amazing vendor in Toronto (my hometown) if you are interested. His prices are in line with online prices and you get individualized service with him. Not as good as buying from a vendor in your city, but better than buying blind online, imo.
