Hello all this is my first time posting on this site and I know very little about diamonds. I would like to get some advice on a radiant cut diamond that I have priced in a local jewlery store. Please let me know your thoughts on both quality and price of this diamond. After pricing some of the radiant cut diamonds online it seems a little pricey to me and the salesperson has told me that there is no room for negotiation. I am definitely going to buy a radiant cut because that is what my future fiancee wants, but I would like some help on locating a really great stone. My priorities are striking a good balance between size and quality. I would like to stay between 4000-5000 for the diamond.

Price: $4,325 (that is for the diamond only)
Radiant cut
GIA Certified
Weight: 1.02 ct
Clarity: VS1
Color: I
Depth: 75.4%
Table: 73%
Girdle: Thin-Thick
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Dimensions: 6.39 X 5 X 3.77

Any help would really be appreciated. Thank you

James

Welcome

I am no expert on Radiant cuts, we have a couple of experts here who cut and sell Radiants who know their stuff and I can only give you a place to start. I think this Radiant is too deep and will look smaller than it should for it's weight. Apparently it is best to stick to a Radiant with the depth in the 60+% region. This looks like a rectangular shape too which is fine if that is what you prefer, however Radiants are best evaluated by the eyes, if you love this diamond then that is what matters. You could also drop the clarity to a VS2 or SI1 if the diamond is eyeclean, Radiants can show inclusions more than rounds but you might be able to drop the clarity and save there. I find that surprising that you find the diamonds more expensive online, have you tried www.diamondsbylauren.com for radiants? David specialises in them and sells some beauties. Also check out the vendors under tools and see what is available, but most of all take your time to get a diamond which will blow your GF's socks off - Radiants are tricky and it may take a little time to find the right one - unless you adore the one you have seen of course. Good luck.

I apologize I did not mean to say that I found diamonds online more expensive. I was saying that I thought that the diamond I priced at my local store seemed pricey to me. Thanks for your help. Is there anyway you could connect me with the people on this site that are very knowledgable about the radiant cut diamonds. Thanks again for your help.

OOPS, misunderstood your meaning! Thought that was odd that you found B and M cheaper than online. Try Diamonds by Lauren with the link above, also you can private message David from DBL as he posts here, also Stan Grossbard who''s Father invented the Radiant posts here too , username Radiantman. Stan also cuts Radiants I believe, also do a search for Radiants in the above search tool and that will bring up lots of threads with their input. I know their main advice is to listen to an expert opinion if you can and look at the Radiants yourself where possible as the numbers give you a place to start, but don''t tell the whole story where the individual beauty of each diamond is concerned. If you do the search, you should find enough info to give you some knowledge.

Thanks for the tips and information. I really appreciate it. I went to the link that you posted but most of the rings their seemed to be out of my price range. I have another question for you. Have you ever purchased a diamond from one of the internet vendors listed on pricescope? I know that the diamonds I have looked at will enable me to get a much better diamond for the same amount of money, but I cannot help but be somewhat weary of buying one online. Any advice or suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks for everything

Buying online can be daunting, but many of us have done so and are very glad we did. Vendors are experts and professionals and will advise you and send you pics of each potential purchase, also they have a good return period for you to see if you truly love the diamond plus a chance to get an independant appraisal. I know it is difficult with diamonds you can''t see, particularly a Radiant, but online is the best way to get the best for your money, enquire with some vendors and see who you feel comfortable with might be the best thing. Vendors do understand that you can''t see the diamonds beforehand so will guide you carefully.

Thanks for all of the information I really appreciate it and have found it very helpful. If you do not mind then I will probably get your thoughts on some of the diamonds that I am considering. Thanks again.
