My girlfriend wants a canary and there is about 5% as much information out there as for white diamonds. Can you help me sanity check this purchase? I don''t know how to judge pricing on yellow diamonds and I want to be sure I''m not being taken for a ride!

Here''s the stone:

$9700, Cushion modified brilliant cut, 1.21 carats, 6.80 x 5.70 x 3.60mm
Natural Fancy Yellow with even distribution

Table size: 65%
Total depth: 63.2%
Crown angle: 33.2%
Crown height: 13.5%
Pavil angle: 40.7%
Pavil Depth: 43.1%

The dealer said it''s a VS2 but that''s not on the GIA report. Only the origin, grade and distribution are listed on the GIA report I have access to. Those angles/percentages above come from a megascope report. They told me this one looks considerably better than a shy-1carat stone they found previously but the price is not that much more (< $2k more).

Many thanks for your advice!

I don''t know much about fancy colored diamonds, or cushion shapes, but based on thediamond.com prices (http://www.thediamond.com/canary-yellow-diamonds.html), your diamond is at least 1,500 up to 3,000 more expensive than what they are offering.

There may be something special about your diamond that warrants the price, hopefully someone else will jump in, but I would take a look at the above website for some ideas.
