Hi,

Thinking about popping the question soon and I know for a fact that she likes the Tiffany Novo. Bering a cheap guy I'd rather not spend extra for just the brand name so I've been looking at the online retailers and would love your expert input and help. I think the Brilliant Earth Valenica is the closest in terms of setting.

I don't know anything about diamonds but based off my research of the 4 c's, I am looking for at minimum 1.5 ct, Ideal Cut, F color, VS1 clarity. This one seems like it kind of fits the bill (link below). Not sure if I am over/under doing any of the important c's. Willing to take any suggestions if you think there's a better diamond. Willing to go slightly below 1.5 if the diamond will sparkle a lot more/better quality.

I would suggest you keep looking. This is not a well cut diamond.

It is suggested you narrow it down to diamonds that score 2.0 or under on the HCA tool. https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca This is a rejection tool. This diamond scores 3.1
Once you find one under 2.0 then you will need to investigate further asking for ASET or idealscope images.

Also try to follow these parameters from diamondseeker

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0 (up to 35.5 crown angle can sometimes work with a 40.6 pav angle)

pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41.0 if the crown angle is close to 34)

Great tip. Thanks. Do you think I am over/undershooting any og the 4'cs by going with 1.5 ct, Ideal Cut, F color, VS1 clarity as minimums. I know size/carat is what it is but how about the other 3? Do I need to modify my search to get better value? I don't care that much about the magnification of the diamond, just as long as it looks good by the naked eye.

You can go to eye clean SI1 & H colour. Even I colour should look white top down, you may see very slight tint of colour from the side, depends how colour sensitive your FF is.

If you post your budget & are happy to buy from other vendors you might get luck with suggestions. If someone does suggest a stone & you like it it's best to put it on hold ASAP otherwise lurkers will snap it up.

The diamond you posted also has SBF.

Is SBF bad? I read that it would only be visible under intense UV light so it woudl be okay under everday normal conditions.

I am open to other retailers. I have only been looking on Brilliant Earth because the setting was the closest I could find to the Tiffany Novo. My budget would be around 14000k USD give or take for just the diamond.

Whiteflash have this setting, which is similar:

(Although personally I'm not sure that the 3 sided pave will be easy to live with- it may require special care and will likely scratch up a wedding band.)

This would allow you to buy a (slightly smaller) superideal cut round, here are a couple:

I'll let others comment on the diamonds. At the risk of overwhelming you...here are a few setting that are similar to the Novo.

ERD. https://www.gabrielny.com/engagement-ring/ER6703W44JJ

WF. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...5th-ave-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-1593.htm

GOG (but several vendors sell Vatche) Vatche has several that are similar, although differ a bit in the head.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/vatche/1535-serenity-collection

BG. Very close, except the area under the 'shoulder' is solid not open. Pave goes 3/4 around band, Novo 1/2.

Legera. Very close, although the shoulders are lower than the novo.

I would highly recommend not doing the side pave for durability reasons (and for avoiding scratching an eventual wedding band)

I also strongly recommend Vatche settings - lifetime guaranteed so if there's ever a loss of a stone, they will fix it. Lower quality pave is sure to have issues over time

Just wanted to chime in to say that the original setting posted is not like the Tiffany Novo. I would never buy a setting with diamonds on the sides of the shank.

The Vatche 5th Avenue is very similar to the Novo and high quality. I also agree that Whiteflash has outstanding diamonds.

Other options if the Vatche setting in platinum (recommended) is too high.

Is there a reason why having diamonds on the band would be a bad idea? I know that is what she likes so I was just trying to find something that looked as close to the following picture as I could.
http://media.tiffany.com/is/image/T...G_OVIEW_m.jpg?defaultImage=NoImageAvailable&&

I have a feeling she would definitely not be into the Vatche 5th Avenue style.

Diamonds on the top of the shank are fine (though still require more care than no diamonds)

Diamonds on the side of the shank will be subject to more wear and tear, could be uncomfortable, and will scratch up a flush wedding band in the future

The Tiffany ring you posted does not have diamonds on the side
