Help! What's wrong with this cad?

Hi my fellow Psers!

So this is a cad that was sent by my jeweler. It's "Soleste" influenced. I went to Tiffany's and tried on the Soleste and liked it a lot...except the profile was a little too high. This is for the 4th and final "re-do", by the grace of God and encouragement of Psers my jeweler is willing to re-do my e-ring. Currently, it's an 1.25 asscher cut in a double halo that looks like an art deco dinner ring.

I'd still like a double halo for finger coverage.

What do you guys think?:)

Thanks so much for your input!

Several concerns. the Soliste has a yellow center. With a white center the look will be very different. Are you sure you will like it?

Second, the melee in the halo are too big. Have them use smaller stones in the halo.

Third, there is way too much space between the two rows of pave on the halo. Look at how close these are... they are right next to each other. You CAD shows a separation.

Last, tilt the halo hon. The halo should tilt away from the center stone. 20% is about right.

Yay! I am so happy the jeweler is willing to redo the ring! Gypsy has given good advice regarding the halo. She has done a single halo on an asscher herself, so she really can be of great help to you!

Also, I noticed one other thing.

The INSIDE (first) halo around the stone is asscher shaped. There are clear corners, with two stones in each corner. The outside halo (second) is clearly cushion shaped with no corners. And I don't know if that's what you want. If it is NOT what you want I suggest you ask the jeweler to try his best to put three or four stones (depending on melee size) in each corner and try to get a bit more of an asscher shape (he won't be able to get a distinct one because of the pave style, you can see it with mine that while I have clear corners they are very rounded) out of the second halo.

That bugs me also.
I think the shape of the halo clashes with the center stone.

From the CAD it appears as if the melee in the outside halo are larger than those of the inside one. I don't know why that is (actually the picture of the cushion halo looks like it has that too, hmm). Perhaps for spacing. I think it's adding to the problem of the shape of the outside halo being wrong. Ask him if there is anything he can do with that.

While the CAD does look like it COULD have half pointers in the inner halo. I think he is using larger melee in the outer halo. :wavey:

The proportions of this halo compared to this center stone are not what you want (the halo is too big in the image below) but this is what I mean by the shape of the halo. The outer halo has 3 melee in each corner and it is giving it a distinct octagonal shape.

And the melee in both halos looks like they are the same size.

Oh, Gypsy...what would I do without you?! YOu should just have your own website, where people can just ask you for advice directly.
Like a "Dear Abby" :)

Tiffany's has the "Soleste" with a white diamond center as well. That's what I had tried on and really liked.

Should I be specific on what grade/color melee should be other than 1/2 pointers, less space between halos, and more defined corners?

To be bit more concise when you communicate to the jeweler:

1. The halo should tilt away from the center stone about 20 degrees.
2. The inside halo has defined corners, the outside halo does not. Both need to have defined corners that follow the octagonal outline of the asscher and neither should be cushion shaped.
3. Why are the melee in the outside halo larger than those of the inside halo. Both should be the same size: .5 pointers. And obviously they should be well cut and of F/G color and clarity (unless you specified something else, I don't recall your stones color).
4. Why is there so much space between the inside halo and the outside halo. There needs to be as little space as possible, the two rows should be RIGHT next to each other with VERY little gap between them!

:wavey: Happy to help hon, I hope this is the last iteration and that you love it.
