Hey all,

Spent the past several weeks scouting out some potential diamonds and right now have the list down to 5. Would appreciate any assistance you can offer, or if you see something better than what I have, send it over!

My criteria was:
Max $1700
Oval diamond
L/W Ratio ~1.4 or greater
Length greater than 6.75
59-63% depth
55-60% table
SI2 Eyeclean or better
I or better

I found 3 stones in my upper price range, and 2 that were significantly under. The upper range:

1) https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.70-carat-h-color-si2-clarity-sku-2667211
2) https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.72-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-2783992
3) No link to this one - was sent a video that I could try to upload, but the diamond looks fantastic in that. The specs are as follows:
$1,735
7.03x5.08x3.16
0.7 carats
SI2, eye clean
62.2% depth, 58% table
Polish-EX, Sym-VG, Fluorescence-N
Slightly Thick-Thick

On the cheaper end:

4) https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.60-carat-h-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-2860308
5) http://www.diamondexchange.com.au/diamond-details/?stock=DX022183254609 (note, in AUD, roughly $1300 USD)

Thanks!

Hmm, none of them really grabs my attention. I'm going to throw out a few more that I think are worth looking at. I checked JA and ED and didnt find
anything that was much better but seems like I have found some at BlueNile. You'll have to hold your shift button down when you click on the links and
they should come up (fingers crossed).

I think this is my favorite (and it is the biggest)...

Nice too but not as big...higher color

This has a little more contrast through the center (darkness) which you may or may not like

Second biggest one...

Hey thanks so much for posting those, appreciated. The first one is beautiful - though I did notice some slight inclusions, I could follow up with BN to see if it's eye clean however.

#4 is really nice too and fits the l/W ratio I was going for.

I'm also going to try to upload the video for diamond #3

You can nix your number 2 stone because it has black arrows going straight threw the center.
Your number 5 stone has a chip so you would need to ask about it...is it a weak spot...could there be further chipping?

Just noticed the first stone I posted has a feather (some inclusion) along the side.

Will look for the video.

Great thanks for noticing that. Just when I think I'm getting these diamonds figured out ;)

Here's the video:

Vault Manager from Blue Nile got back to me and stated that both the following diamonds are eye clean:

https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08616609
https://www.bluenile.com/au/diamond-details/LD08612247

So it's pretty much between those two and the one that I posted the video above of. Is there a winner amongst these? Any help would be much appreciated.

Diamond w/ video is most expensive ($200 more than next, $400 over the 3rd) but looks great in the video. 2nd biggest diamond.

Diamond 2 (16609) is the next most expensive, is the smallest, but has the best color rating and best L/W ratio. Depth% is a bit high though which is probably why it's the smallest looking.

Diamond 3 (12247) is the biggest of the three and the cheapest, which is always a nice combo. Has strong fluorescence but I can't really tell at least from the images provided.

All 3 are verified eye clean.

Sorry to bump this - I have the latter two on hold but the hold expires today. From what I can tell for the price both seem good options. However the larger stone has noted cloudy features so I'm not sure if that will impact the shine. The F rated stone has a depth% of 64.5 which falls outside the 59-63 range for ideal cuts... Will this also impact the brilliance?

The stone in the video you just posted looks to have a pretty wide bow-tie.

Of the last 2 you posted...I think I like the faceting pattern of the .7 stone better but then I like
the shape (outline) of the .72 stone.

Are you an Aussie? Can you ask BN if Cloud is affecting the brillance/beauty of the .72? Also ask if the Fluorescence has any affect on it.
The grade making inclusion is a Cloud. At an SI2, even though I like the look of this stone better, it is a risky choice for an Aussie
who can not easily send it back. I dont usually recommend SI2s for Aussies...matter fact I usually bump it up to VS1/2 because sending back
and forth can be a pain.

Maybe by default you should go with the less risky .70. It does have something a little dark around 4 o'clock but probably still eye-clean.
No flur and cloud is listed as the 3rd inclusion so it is probably somewhat minor. Seems like it would be a safer choice.

Thank you so much for the reply. I've asked BN about the cloud/fluorescence, hopefully they can provide some info.

Yes, I'm an aussie. Maybe I'll have another go at some in the VS1/VS2 range and see what I come up with. Certainly doesn't need to be 0.7 carat but the closer to that 7x5 ratio the better... From doing some comparisons once you get below 6.8/6.75 the difference in size becomes fairly noticeable. Working on a budget though, trying to prioritize cut, clarity really seems to drive the price up. I can't recall finding a nice VS that was 6.75 or higher for around the $1500 mark.

Sorry to bump again - hoping to purchase this weekend. I've asked for additional images of both the .7 and .72 SI2 stones though it's seeming like the .7 will be the better option due to the visuals and the color rating.

However, one of the stones I posted above (https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...-vvs2-clarity-sku-2860308?a_aid=55f8cd4e21a11) is a VVS2 which takes away concerns about the inclusions and, despite being a fair bit smaller (6.76x4.82), the cut seems great.

Is it better opting for the smaller stone in order to ensure VVS2?

I guess ultimately the question is, assuming more images come back and it seems like the .7F is 100% eye clean, do I go with that? Or is the smaller VVS2 a better alternative? If the .72G comes back with more images and the cloud doesn't seem to be too much of an impact, is that the best?

Sorry, I've been looking for quite a a while and now that it's coming to decision time I'm having a hard time deciding which stone is the best bet within my budget. At the end of the day, I just want something within budget that will make her happy - looks brilliant and is within size expectations (we had gone shopping and tried some on, the one she felt most comfortable with was 7.15x5.1).
