Help! Rose Gold Solitaire Band With Diamond Prongs? Will it look good?

Hi Guys,

First post and looking for help regarding a custom setting I am thinking of creating.

In words, I would like a 1.5 mm rose gold solitaire band with white gold or platinum prongs. On the prongs, I would like diamonds on the prongs itself. It would be a claw 4 prong and would try to keep the prongs on the thinner side.

Here are pictures to help visualize what I am looking for.

In picture 1 is what the overall ring should look like.

In picture 2 is the claw prong set the way I would like it to be and the claw prong size I would like.

In picture 3 is just the idea of rose gold solitaire ring with the white gold prongs.

and in picture 4 is the diamond prongs that I like as well as similar sized prongs.

Any feedback would be appreciated, I haven't seen any solitaire rings with diamond prongs during my research so I really want to know how that would look.

Also, the diamond I'm looking for would be gia,1.7 ct, excellent, H-I, and vvs2-vs2. I have seen a couple for around 10.5k. My budget all in would be 12k. Do you guys think this is possible? If you have any recommendations on who could help create this for me as well, I would really appreciate it! :)

Here is a diamond that fits the mold.

That is a really thin band. I would worry about durability. 2 mm would be better for longevity. A band that thin could become mishaped easily. You could do a tapered band that's thinner in the front and widens potentially. But that's really thin for daily wear.

On the prongs, I have seen it done, but I think it's a higher maintenance setting. I wouldn't put a band near them because it could cause damage. I would do platinum prongs because they will be less brittle and will take impact better. Do you have a designer in mind? I would ask them how the design you want wears.

On budget, I am not a buyer of modern rounds so I cannot answer that. But as someone that has had a few custom settings your budget leaves about $2500 for the setting. I think that's on the lower end with the pave prongs. I think your quotes will be more than that probably due to pave. If it was just a plain two tone solitaire, I think it would be enough for the setting. Hope that helps.

I would agree with the question of durability. Especially in the prongs. 1.5mm is very thin. Perhaps increase to 1.8mm to achieve your dainty look with increased stregnth of the band. Also instead of diamond studded prongs, maybe a diamond basket/hidden halo instead? :)

The design is pretty. I'm like the other posters, the shank at 1.5 is a tad too thin. Here is one from Stuller. The basket is a bit different than the one you posted but perhaps with the cross bar in the head it might add a bit of rigidity. It's still thin though at 1.7. I'm not a fan of diamond melee in the head portion. I don't think it's as secure as just solid gold or platinum. Stuller may be able to change out the shank to a bit wider one. Ask your vendor. Also, Stuller may be able to do the head you want. They can pretty much customize what you want. But again, ask your vendor. Or there's always David Klass. For something like this, he would be a good option for you.

Appreciate the responses, definitely have some things to think about now. It seems like a 1.5mm band is way too thin. I will start reaching out to vendors. Thanks again!

Make sure you get a well-cut stone. You would need an idealscope or aset for that stone you posted.

Ditto 1.5mm being thin. Try to go with 1.8mm or even 2mm. Those prongs...will cause problems with a wedding band if you dont take it into account
in advance. Perhaps a small donut to push the wedding band out away from the prongs a little. Those prongs in the picture you posted are done
really nicely. I have seen some (pictures) that caused the prongs to be big, bulky, and not attractive. David Klass may be able to do them but I wonder
if you really need a Victor Canera, Steven Kirsh, or Maytel Hanah to do them right. David Klass may be in budget (guessing $1200+ from the quotes
I've gotten) but unfortunately, the others would not. Do your homework if you go with someone local. Make sure you see some of their work that is
tiny pave like this.

And for what its worth, you sound pretty picky (nothing wrong with knowing what you want), so be sure to find someone who can do this work well.:))

Yeah, definitely no to a 1.5mm gold shank. Gold is not as durable as platinum and I have some of my grandmothers' gold rings and they are worn paper thin on the bottom. Imagine if they had started out at 1.5mm thin; they would be broken or cracked now. 2mm will still be super dainty, believe me
