I originally purchased a gorgeous OEC for a relationship that didn't work out, and have thought since then that for the second engagement ring, I'd do something totally different, like an east-west set oval... but I can't get OECs out of my mind! I don't want the second ring to look at all like the first, though, and I think I've figured out a new style that I love: an OEC with a calibre cut sapphire halo.
I tried on this ring at Lang in San Francisco:
I absolutely loved it, but I'd like a bigger center stone (this one is 1.13).
So, I see my choices as being:
1) find a ready-made ring with a bigger center stone
or
2) create the ring from scratch
For Option 1, I found the following ring at Estate Diamond Jewelry in NYC:
They estimate the stone at 1.88, J color, VS2. It's not certed yet, but a cert is coming from UGL. Questions: do people have opinions on this vendor? Also, should I insist the stone is certed somewhere else? Thoughts on the OEC itself? The ring is also a bit more than the $15,000 budget I have.
For Option 2, I have ideas on who I'd buy the diamond from, but no clue who might make a setting like the ones above.
