Hi JennaJ,

Thanks for your post. Could you please ask the online vendor to also provide you with a Sarin report of the diamond. This report will give you the crown and pavilion angles that you need in order to determine a basic assessment of the cut.

Once you have the crown and pavilion angles, you can plug the numbers into the Holloway Cut Advisor which will give you a rating as to how your diamond shapes up. A score below 2 would indicate that you are considering a diamond that is in the top 5%.

The scoring system will also provide you a look at how your diamond’s numbers translate into fire, light return, spread and scintillation of the stone. It’s a great tool to use as a starting point and/or as others have mentioned, to narrow down your search.

Your price of AUD4,000 converts into about USD2,887 (or USD4,124 per carat). I would keep shopping around if you are not tied to a proposal deadline.

Hope this helps. Please keep us posted and let us know how it goes.

Kindest regards always,
Linda

Yes, if you can get the angles, that can help determine what the stone's likely optics will be...

I included the stones links to show some excellent stones within the "ideal" range of table and depth, so you could see the difference.

Indeed being cut to perfection has it's cost, and if your stone performs well on HCA it could be a good contender...

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for your replies.

It doesn't look like we'll be going with the diamond above, I like the look of this one, it is around the same price:

Carat 0.71
Colour E
Clarity SI1
Total Depth 62.50
Pavilion Depth 42.70
Table 58.00
Dimensions 5.62-5.67X3.53
Crown Angle 35.00
Pavilion Angle 40.60
Girdle 3.01
Culet VS
Fluorescence None
Lustre
Polish VG
Symmetry VG
Cut ICE Excellent AGS1
Cert GIA

Please remember that we'll be buying from overseas and won't have a chance to inspect beforehand! I'm assuming that the SI1 shouldn't be a problem if we ask if its eyeclean, we were originally wanting VS1 or VS2 but I'm reconsidering that - still want high colour though.

The numbers look nice for the last one, and hopefully the diamond will too.

I would have liked to see the girdle at half that (it is "thick" right?), but this is not exactly a serious concern. Some would say that this makes the stone 'smaller' but this really means a max diameter of 5.75mm - not much of a difference.

Ideal Scope anyone ?

Just in case, here's a couple of 'local' PS alternatives:

0.7cts, D-SI1

0.66cts F-VS1

0.7cts, E-VS2
