Help on pricing

I''m looking to sell my wife''s current diamond, and buy her a new one. I need help on what people think I should sell it for. The reason I''m looking is that when I purchased my wife''s engagement ring back in 1999, I was pretty concerned with the 3 C''s,
leaving out the 4th, and most important C of Cut. I got an IGI certificate, D VS2, .97 Carat diamond. Looked very nice to me, but the proportions were 9.13-4.52-3.77, depth of 83.4%. Knowing what I know now, I would like to replace that diamond with one of a better cut.

My guess is that I may sell it for about 3k....does that sound right? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Obviously we don''t know the cut, but this sounds more like the price you''d expect to find online.

If you search for "selling a diamond" here, many threads will come up with various advice.

Just keep in mind that people looking to buy a diamond second-hand are looking for a deal, looking for a reason to buy from you and not a store with all the services and guarantees therein. So it will have to be significantly discounted beyond what they could buy it for themselves in a store or off the internet.

Also, consider consignment or trading up, or see what happens with it on eBay.
