Hey all,

I'm looking at buying a diamond ring second hand, since I'm guessing it will be less expensive. Of course I will still be making sure is is AGS or GIA certified. However, I'm not sure what reasonable prices are. I just know that most retail prices are grossly overstated. Anyway, I saw this in a local ad, and I was hoping someone could give me there opinion on it.

http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/jwl/2636880047.html

He said he would drop down to $650, which is lower than comparable diamonds on Blue Nile, plus this would include the plaitnum band.

My end goal is to make a custom e-ring, so I'm really just in it for the diamond.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,

The ad doesn't state which lab graded the stone. Unless it is graded by AGS you will not know how well cut it is. If you're going to purchase a GIA stone second hand I would purchase an ASET so you can determine the cut.

Considering it is a Leo branded stone, I think you may be okay. All of the Leo's should come with a Gemex eval on their certificate showing light performance.

What exactly would I be looking for in the Gemex evaluation?
